Premier League Player of the Season list: Arsenal ace and Man Utd star make the list

The nominees for Premier League Player of the Season have all been noted.
As the Premier League season draws to a close, attention turns to the year-end awards.
We at Reports have already announced our top 10 players of the season, but with today’s release of the Premier League shortlist, fans now have a concrete idea of who could lift the trophy on May 27.

Last season’s winner Kevin De Bruyne is back in contention and six other players from five different clubs make up the final list of finalists, all of whom have produced outstanding performances. No one can argue that these players don’t deserve to make the cut, but we can all certainly argue about who deserves to win.

To give our take on the matter, we used the Tiermaker tool and ranked every name on the list, including even some players who might be considered unlucky to miss out.
We have divided them into the following categories: ‘Should be in the list’, ‘Good season but no hope’, ‘Out of the ordinary’, ‘Big claim’ and ‘Deserved winner’.
Don’t you agree with our statement? Let us know who you think should take the honors later this month in our social media comments.

    Mohamed Salah, Ivan Toney

Listen, we know Liverpool and Salah haven’t been at their best this season but the Egyptian king has still put in a high performance for the Reds.
Nineteen league goals and ten other assists are part of his all-time best tally, surpassing even short-listed Marcus Rashford.

Toney, meanwhile, may also feel overwhelmed as his best season in the top flight to date has gone unnoticed.
The league’s third top scorer (to date) helped Brentford rise through the ranks and almost qualify for European qualification. His year was overshadowed by his suspension from football, but he’s still notable.

    Good season but no hope

    Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier

Kane’s numbers this year have been extraordinary, but there are two big things working against him.
First, his team has gone a bit off the rails in recent weeks. Two: he is not the top scorer in the league, which is the main point of assessment for his position. Trippier has also had an impressive year, with creativity from behind combined with defensive solidity as Newcastle look for a place in next year’s Champions League.
Unfortunately for him, his performance this year doesn’t make him THE best.

    Marcus Rashford, Martin Odegaard…
If either of these two wins, it will be a surprise.
While Rashford had one of his best seasons in a United shirt, he only managed to bring his side to the brink of Champions League qualification, not to mention the league title. Big season? Definitive? The best season of all? Probably not.

If Odegaard had managed to lead Arsenal to their first league title since 2004, he would certainly have been placed a notch higher. The Norwegian has been a key player for the Gunners and earlier this year won player of the year at the London Football Awards.
But with Arsenal’s season tumbled last month, it’s hard to say who is the player who has had the biggest impact.

    Big claims

    Bukayo Saka, Kevin De Bruyne

Saka could even be on Odegaard’s level as the English winger suffered a dip in form during the biggest part of the year for Arsenal.
But for the most part it was sensational, and the main reason why Arsenal have been top of the table for so long. Thirteen goals and the second most assists this season only underline his success. The only player who creates more chances is the other man in this row.

De Bruyne had a minor downturn at Man City earlier this year but he has bounced back in the big part.
Three goals and four assists in his last five games have helped City overtake Arsenal in the table, and his assists are just four short of the league’s all-time record.
De Bruyne celebrates his decisive goal in the 2022/23 Premier League title fight against Challenger Arsenal.
    deserved winner

    Erling Haaland

He made history in his first season in English football. How could it be someone else?

Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s Premier League record was broken by the striker just before the end. We all knew Haaland would be impressive, but few would have thought he could do it all in his first year. A jubilant Erling Haaland celebrates his 35th Premier League goal of the season – an all-time high for a single season. Against West Ham, 2023

Thirty-six goals and maybe more to come. He’s the monster, the robot, and certainly the best player of the season.
