Pundit claims that this season one Man City player has performed just like Yaya Toure

Analyst claims that this season, one Man City player has resembled Yaya Toure. According to Nedum Onuoha, one Manchester City player this season has resembled Yaya Toure exactly.

Toure played 316 appearances for the Manchester club over his eight-year tenure, tallying 80 goals and providing 47 assists. The 2013–14 season was the Ivorian’s greatest Premier League season, as he scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 35 games.

A contemporary City player has been compared to the 41-year-old and what he accomplished during that one specific season that saw the Blues win the Premier League, ten years after Toure’s outstanding league campaign.

Onuoha says Phil Foden has been just like Yaya Toure this season

Speaking in a recent livestream on the club’s YouTube channel ahead of their recent 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Onuoha had this to say about Phil Foden and the form he’s been in this season.

He said: “This [form] right now has extended for far longer than a lot of people anticipated but I think this is what happens for a guy that makes himself available, wants to be a big part of everything that City are doing in attack [and] defensively I think he’s been good as well.

“That feeling where he’s just been scoring goals week in, week out, this season reminds me in some ways of the Yaya Toure one where he hit like 20 [goals] from midfield.

“Obviously, two very different styles of player, but for impact, those big moments, those big goals, Phil is doing it.

“I think a lot of people always assume that everything’s always been fine rosy for him.

“You go back a year and he wasn’t starting for City at this point in the season. It was [Ilkay] Gundogan, it was [Kevin] De Bruyne, it was Bernardo Silva, it was Jack Grealish, but at the end of the season, his drive was to make sure that he was a big part of this season.

“If they finish with two trophies, he knows he was a huge part of that.”

Foden has been prolific this season

This season has seen Foden score 17 goals and deliver eight assists in 34 games, which isn’t too far away from Toure’s record from the 2013/14 campaign.

His overall appearances have earned the Englishman a solid season rating of 7.5/10 from WhoScored, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in the league.

Looking back over the 2013/14 season, Toure earned himself an overall rating of 7.55/10, which, again, is close to Foden.

With all of that taken on board, it’s understandable why Foden’s prolific campaign has reminded Onuoha of Toure.
