Rafael Benitez has said he dislikes late substitutions after Tottenham Hotspur striker Lucas Moura handed the ball to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota to win the late match.
The Portuguese international came off the bench and scored a decisive goal for the Reds against Tottenham Hotspur in the 94th minute after collapsing a three-goal lead.
Liverpool took a comfortable lead after just 15 minutes through Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, but Spurs then held them back through Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Richarlison. Jota made Spurs feel with his last-minute finish.
Benitez criticized Premier League Productions’ use of a late substitution, claiming they “rarely change anything”: “I don’t like turning on a player with minutes to go. They rarely change anything, don’t touch the ball and often make mistakes. So for me, it’s something I try to avoid because I feel like it’s not good for the player.”
The Liverpool hero also praised Jota on his arrival against Fraser Forster in the Spurs goal: “It’s because you play at Anfield. The atmosphere is great. You concede a goal you can’t believe and then you score another.” the feeling is great. Diogo Jota plays very smartly between the lines and his finishing was really good.
