Romano says ‘important’ move to Liverpool could happen very soon
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are still looking for another midfielder who “could immediately help Jurgen Klopp’s side”.
The Merseysiders recently signed Japan international captain Wataru Endo but remain keen to expand their midfield options in addition to signing a left-wing centre-back.
And what’s next at Liverpool? “The club are looking on the market for another top midfielder, a key player who can help Jurgen Klopp’s side immediately,” the Guardian reporter told 888 Sport (as shared on the Anfield Index) . “Negotiations are ongoing, be careful because there may still be surprises…”
It remains to be seen whether the negotiations will lead to a major surprise. The Reds still have around £90m left in their transfer fund – if they intend to use the full £111m they agreed to spend on Moises Caicedo this summer
The plural “surprises” would certainly indicate that we are determined to meet the remaining requirements so that the list is prepared for the rest of the season. Endo’s arrival at Anfield is reassuring, at least in the short term, although we’d be surprised to see Liverpool’s decision-makers walk away from midfield if they still have plans for a return to the top four.
According to various sources, Cheick Doucour is a possibility for potentially less than £60million – a possibility certainly made all the more likely by Michael Olise’s decision to tie up his future at Crystal Palace despite interest from Chelsea.
However, judging by the left fielder’s appeal to sign the Stuttgart captain, eyebrows might be raised even more when it comes to what the club decides to do next in the market.
