The great Ronaldo of Brazil has said that one out of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool is set to win the Premier League. He believes that this season, the latter City will create history by being the first team to win four straight titles.
With last weekend’s victory against Brentford and Liverpool’s draw with City, Arsenal is currently leading the title chase. Based only on goal differential, the Gunners lead the Reds, with City trailing them by just one point.
And Ronaldo, a former star of Real Madrid, is supporting Pep Guardiola’s squad to go the distance once more. Ronaldo said, “City,” in response to a question from the Daily Mail on who he believes will win the title match this season.
The Etihad side has won five of the last six titles on offer, with Liverpool the only team to break City’s dominance during that period. Jürgen Klopp’s team will look to repeat the feat before he leaves Anfield in the summer.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in a title race with three teams,” Klopp remarked following Sunday’s draw with City (via LiverpoolFC.com). “Germany was usually Bayern, but in one year, we became champions with Leverkusen.” And in this case, there is normally only one squad that wins the championship, and we stepped in once. I do not believe there was a third time around. I do not know. I’m not sure if it affects anything.
“We have ten games to play, so clearly nothing is determined. There are a lot of games. The next game in the league comes at home against Brighton, who are traditionally not our favorite opponents. We don’t think, ‘Thank God it’s Brighton.’ They play excellent football, and that is a difficult game for us. We once played Tottenham here, and we had to travel to Aston Villa and other places.
“City will play Arsenal, Tottenham, and Aston Villa as well. There are so many teams battling, and they are of such high quality. The only thing I need right now is to have 30 points between us and everyone else, but the reality is, are we really in that race in terms of performance? Today I observed a team that is in the proper place; now let’s see what we can do.”
Guardiola commented on the championship battle following City’s draw with Liverpool, saying: “The reflection of that is a good point to make. Except for one year when Liverpool won by a lot of points, we were always present. Being present is the question. It will be challenging due to quality.”
