SEALED DEAL: Man Utd dressing room breaks silence over Andre Onana’s arrival
Donny van de Beek has become the first Manchester United player to comment publicly on Andre Onana’s impending arrival at Old Trafford. The Inter goalkeeper could be announced as United’s new player on Thursday, after arriving at the club’s training ground in Carrington to complete a medical.
And The Athletic reports that a flight has been booked for the 27-year-old to join his new teammates at their pre-season training camp in the United States.
He will arrive at Old Trafford as a direct replacement for David de Gea, who left United after 12 years at the club when his contract expired.
Onana, a Champions League finalist at Inter last season, suits manager Erik ten Hag’s tactical style, with distribution being one of his most important qualities.
However, the deal did not come in time for Wednesday’s friendly against Lyon, which United won 1-0 at Murrayfield. Van de Beek marked his return from a serious knee injury by scoring a beautiful volley and gave his reaction to Onana’s impending play after the match.
Van de Beek on Onana’s signature
The Dutch midfielder played alongside Onana at Ajax before moving to United in the summer of 2020 for £35m.
It hasn’t been easy for Van de Beek at Old Trafford, with injury problems and a lack of consistent playing time meaning he hasn’t been producing his best form.
But Lyon’s volley could mark a return to the performance he has consistently shown at Ajax and the midfielder is keen on a reunion with Onana.
When asked by MUTV about the Cameroonian’s arrival, Van de Beek replied: “Yes, he is a great goalkeeper. I played with him for many years.
“Great personality. He’s good with his feet, he’s good on the line. My expectations of Andre are high.
“He’s also a great person, I still talk to him sometimes.” Yes, he’s a top-notch keeper.
The pair hope to help United find more success this season as the club prepare to return to the Champions League.

Man Utd set to make ‘initial offer’ for €70m star striker after finalizing Andre Onana deal
Manchester United would like to test Atalanta’s resolve by making a first offer for Rasmus Hojlund, who is one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets.
The Red Devils are pushing to sign a new striker but agree a deal with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Man Utd were somewhat reliant on goals from Marcus Rashford last season. He scored 30 goals in all competitions and has since been rewarded with a terrific new contract. From now on, Ten Hag wants to provide him with quality support.
Forwards linked with Man Utd include Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani. However, it looks like Hojlund is Ten Hag’s priority.
The 20-year-old scored nine goals in 32 Serie A games last season and is expected to improve further as he gains experience. As Football365 previously reported, personal terms have already been agreed between Man Utd and Hojlund. So the only thing left to negotiate is his transfer fee.
According to a report by CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are “ready” to make an offer of around £35-40m for Hojlund
