The Reds hold a transfer meeting as Diogo Jota delivers an important message
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, but are struggling first to try and end the Premier League season on a positive note.
In the midst of a busy season, Liverpool have given their supporters a few things to cheer about, with their win over Leeds being the latest example.
The Reds bowled Javi Gracia’s side for six at Elland Road, with Mohamed Salah scoring two of their goals. Double also for Diogo Jota, who ended the drought of years with a brace in the second half.
Jota’s reaction to his performance is one of the last jokes around Anfield, with the ex-Wolves man recalling the advice he received from international team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo. After scoring his first goals for Liverpool since April 2022, Diogo Jota recalled the advice given to him by Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Jota got an assist in the first half against Leeds but he wanted more and he got it.
Ronaldo had compared the dryness of the goal to “opening a bottle of ketchup”. Basically, once the first drop comes out, more will follow.
“That’s one of the things Ronaldo said and it’s stuck with me all these years,” Jota told Sky Sports. “I think football is unpredictable and those are the things we love about football. Things can change very quickly.”
Jota also spoke about his team’s slim chances of building on the win to close the gap between the top four. “We have great results this season, great results – 7-0, 9-0,” he said. “So we’ve had those results before, but we just have to keep our feet on the ground because the next one is a very different game.”
