Three new clubs shows interest on £378k-a-week Man City man which he admires one
The supporters of Manchester City are eager to learn Pep Guardiola’s plans shortly. When the current season comes to an end, the Spaniard’s contract is up, and there has been much conjecture about whether he will decide to walk away or stay on a little bit longer.
Naturally, Manchester City is really hopeful that he will prolong. Guardiola is widely regarded as the best manager of all time, having guided his team to unprecedented success.
It’s clear that this is a big choice. Manchester City knows it will be difficult to choose Guardiola’s successor, thus they would prefer him to make a decision about his future before 2025.
In recent days, there have been suggestions that Guardiola is now a target for the England manager’s job.
And seemingly, the FA aren’t the only ones looking to hire him.
Pep Guardiola has had three approaches, but he’s set to extend with Man City
Pep Guardiola attends the “Che Tempo Che Fa” TV show at Nove Studios on October 13, 2024 in Milan, Italy.
According to a new report from The Telegraph, Guardiola is very much a wanted man and has already received approaches from three national teams in recent months.
It is stated that Guardiola is interested in coaching a national team one day. In recent days, Guardiola responded to the England speculation, stating that ‘anything can happen in life’.
Apparently, money would not be a factor for him – he knows that he would not get the same kind of money as if he managed another club, it would be purely about taking the job for what it is.
It’s thought that one of those approaches is indeed from the English FA. The report, though, does not name the other two national teams.
It is mentioned though that Guardiola very much admires the current England team, which obviously has several of his City players in it. It’s said Guardiola ’emphatically fits the criteria put forward by the FA’.
In a positive update for fans, the Telegraph adds that sources have ‘tentatively suggested’ the most likely scenario is that Guardiola extends his contract at City by one year.
That would take him to 10 years at the club.
Why Guardiola is likely to extend
It is little surprise to learn that Guardiola has had a few approaches already, having not yet made a decision on his future.
Realistically, any club or association would love Guardiola to take charge of their team given his incredible success at the Etihad Stadium since his arrival in 2016.
But seemingly, there is a very reasonable chance Guardiola extends by a year – and it would be understandable if he did.
His right-hand man Txiki Begiristain may be leaving Manchester City next summer, but everything is still in place for Guardiola at the club to succeed.
The £378,000-a-week tactician has world-class players who are ready to compete for trophies and he is idolised by the fans.
For a manager to do 10 years at a club is a very rare thing these days and Guardiola might just fancy one more season to get up to that magic number, before walking away.
It may well be that an extension is announced, but Guardiola tells fans that 2025/26 will be his final season – giving the club plenty more time to find a suitable successor.
