‘Very concrete’: Fabrizio Romano shares latest update on Amrabat for Man United fans
Fabrizio Romano retracts his claim that Sofyan Amrabat is only interested in joining Manchester United
Fabrizio Romano has implicitly admitted that his earlier report that Sofyan Amrabat was open to staying at Florentina was inaccurate, admitting this morning that the midfielder is dead set on joining Manchester United.
“Sofyan Amrabat has no doubts: he said yes to Manchester United, he wants the move since first talks in June, despite rich Saudi bids,” Romano wrote this morning, calling the player’s claims “fake.”
Yesterday, the writer said that Amrabat told him after a pre-season friendly that he still wanted to stay at Fiorentina, and that last week’s rumours of official bids for the Moroccan midfielder were also false.
One constant theme in Romano’s reports is that Manchester United are serious about signing Amrabat, with the club attempting to move either Fred or Donny van de Beek to raise funds before making an official approach for the 26-year-old.
Amrabat, for his part, appears set on joining United, with The Peoples Person reporting that Amrabat rejected down a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, which included a pay boost, because he wants to play at Old Trafford.
Amrabat is thought to have agreed to personal terms with United last week, which included the player’s salary in principle.
Furthermore, the player’s entourage was alleged to have travelled to Manchester yesterday in order to expedite the transaction.
If reports that United need to offload Fred or Van de Beek before making a bid for Amrabat are correct, the Red Devils could be edging closer to completing the deal for the Fiorentina midfielder.
Fred is reportedly interested in joining Galatasaray, with negotiations between the Turkish club and United already underway.
Fred is expected to receive a proposal ranging from €10 million to €20 million.
Erik ten Hag is claimed to be “pushing” United to sign Amrabat, demonstrating faith in the talents of the player he coached at FC Utrecht.
Amrabat had a breakout season with Fiorentina last season, while also making waves with his pivotal performance at the World Cup in November, when he led Morocco to the semifinals.
