Victor Osimhen’s agent has received calls from Man Utd but Napoli are firm on the price.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 20), Manchester United have been in contact with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s agent over a possible summer transfer.
The Red Devils want to increase their influence with a top centre-forward. Harry Kane is manager Erik ten Hag’s main target, but Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to negotiate with United.
Osimhen is another player constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Gazzetta dello Sport mention his representative has received “calls” from United, Bayern Munich and Newcastle. The same newspaper claims that Napoli failed to convince Osimhen to extend his contract expiring in 2025, but president Aurelio De Laurentiis could still keep him for next season.
De Laurentiis is clear that this summer he will not sell his precious asset for less than 150 million euros.
Osimhen’s price tag could be a huge obstacle
The Nigerian star has become one of the most powerful forwards in the world. He has been brilliant for Napoli this season with 30 goals and five assists in 38 appearances.
In our opinion, he would be a huge improvement over Anthony Martial for the number nine role. The 24-year-old is at the peak of his career and could have a similar impact to Erling Braut Haaland.
Osimhen would make United genuine contenders for the title but the big question is whether the hierarchy would give the green light for his services to come at such a high cost.
United will receive around €70m in TV money from Champions League qualifying alone, but there are doubts over whether the Glazers will provide significant financial support for Ten Hag.
Much of United’s transfer business this summer could hinge on player sales. A takeover would change the whole dynamic, but the Glazers have yet to make a decision on the process. That’s why a deal seems difficult at the moment. United also need to look at the financial fair play situation. It was the reason for their lack of spending during the January transfer window.
