The best and worst Man Utd players in the Tottenham draw
FROM TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM – Manchester United were halfway to a Premier League win at Tottenham on Thursday night before sinking two points down the drain.
Jadon Sancho managed to break the deadlock early on by cutting his right foot and having time to shoot into the far corner of the net.
Shortly before half-time, Erik ten Hag’s team had a second. Bruno Fernandes’ long ball over the top was brought down by Marcus Rashford, who skinned Eric Dier before firing home.
But Man Utd collapsed after the break. Pedro Porro netted one for Spurs just after the restart and then Son Heung-min netted the crucial equalizer ten minutes from time.
A game in two halves, right? Here are Man Utd’s best and worst players that night according to 90 Minutes player ratings.
Man Utd’s best player against Tottenham
Bruno Fernandes: 8/10
Oh what could have been for Tottenham.
In the summer of 2019, Spurs battled Man Utd to sign Fernandes, with the Portuguese midfielder previously admitting he was reportedly close to a move to north London before he fell through. Six months later, he was a red devil instead. Thursday, he was the best Red Devil.
Fernandes was at the center of everything Man Utd did that was positive, both in the dominant first half and in the second when they were soft.
His only flaw is hitting the bar from close range to make it 2-1 after putting Clement Lenglet on his butt.
Man Utd’s worst player vs Tottenham
Fred: 4/10
There are two caveats to this choice. The first is that Fred was a substitute and only played half an hour, the second is that the tide was already against Man Utd when he was signed and therefore Ten Hag should also be blamed.
While starter Christian Eriksen remained calm on every play, Fred often panicked and gave up possession on the cheap, storming into parts of the pitch without thinking and leaving Casemiro alone on an island.
Dier, who was fouled in Man Utd’s second, came within inches of making amends for his mistake when he was unmarked in the center of the box and reached for Perisic’s cross, but somehow went wide with the target open-mouthed.
And Spurs found a deserved equalizer as the game went into the last ten minutes. Romero’s forward header was picked up by Kane, and this time his cross was converted by Son. In stoppage time, Casemiro headed in Shaw’s cross, but it was the closest thing to a winner and the tally was split.
Tottenham move back above Aston Villa in fifth on goal difference, with Man Utd now six points clear of the chasing pack in fourth.
