Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed to sell Ruben Neves to Saudi club Al-Hilal this summer for £47m.
The 26-year-old is expected to be the youngest to join the Saudi Professional League, after Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr and Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad.
The Al-Hilal deal might surprise some as Barcelona, Liverpool and Newcastle United have all been linked with the Portugal international in this window.
Manchester United were also on the lookout for Neves, who really impressed during his time at Molineux.If all goes as planned, Neves will join Al-Hilal ahead of the new season, meaning Wolves will fire him ahead of the 2023/24 season opener against Man United.
Neves had previously made it clear that he enjoyed competing with Wolves in the Premier League, but harbored a burning desire to play Champions League football.Of course, with his contract still in its final 12 months, the Midlands will benefit from him as long as they can.
Neves isn’t the only Premier League star in talks with the Saudi league either.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that N’Golo Kante has signed a contract with Al-Ittihad – Benzema’s new side – worth €100m (£85m) over four years, equivalent to around £442,000 a week’s worth of salary.
Kante’s Stamford Bridge teammates Kalidou Koulibaly and Hakim Ziyech are also expected to join Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr respectively. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Riyah Mahrez is also under observation.
The number of players who have moved to the Gulf state has been on the rise since Ronaldo left Old Trafford for Al-Nassr last December.
The Reds have moved on since Ronaldo’s departure and with the Champions League secured, as well as plenty of transfer links, they will be looking to enjoy a fruitful spell in business this summer.
