You won’t go anywhere”: Man United hero warned Erik ten Hag he ‘won’t win anything’ unless he sign these two unbelievable players
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has criticised their “scruffy” start to the season and urged the club to make two more signings before the transfer window slams shut.
United have picked up six points from their first three games of the season, beating Wolves and Nottingham Forest but losing to Tottenham. Neville believes both Wolves and Forest will feel “really hard done by” to not have beaten United and that slow starts are now becoming a pattern under Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils lost their first two games last season to Brighton and Brentford before finding some form and Neville has warned United they need to find their feet ahead of a huge game against Arsenal this weekend.
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the former United captain said: “You always feel with United under Erik ten Hag, they’re not fluid at all at this stage in the season. In fact, they’ve been really scruffy in the first couple of weeks.
“You think about the Wolves game where Wolves were really unlucky not to get a victory. Nottingham Forest will feel really hard done by and obviously they got beat by Tottenham. But they’ve got a next Sunday at Arsenal which is going to be really interesting because Arsenal slipped up [drawing 2-2 with ten-man Fulham ].
“For United, it isn’t quite going for them yet. It isn’t quite happening, but they’ve put six points on the board and that’s quite important. Two tough away games with Tottenham and now Arsenal next and if they hadn’t won those home games I think they’d be under pressure.”
The game against Arsenal will take place two days after the transfer window closes and Neville believes United need to sign a left-back and a midfielder, having already spent big on Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer.
“I think they have to try to do something in the transfer market this week,” he continued. “They’ve got to try and get players out. Some clubs get players out really well, but United don’t tend to do that. They’ve got players in better this summer.
“There’s no doubt they want another player or two. A left-back and central midfield player and I think they need that or else they’re going to get put under real pressure, particularly when all the other competitions kick in.
“I think there is another one or two players needed just to beef up the squad because of injuries and he does want another midfield player to sit in there alongside Casemiro. It’s an important week for United before Arsenal.”

‘I don’t know what will happen’ – Liverpool target uncertain about future at Bundesliga club
Ryan Gravenberch faces uncertain future when contacted by Liverpool
The transfer window countdown has begun and Ryan Gravenberch’s future remains uncertain. Liverpool and Manchester United are said to be interested in signing Gravenberch, and with just a week to go, the race for his signature will begin.
In response to the Premier League duo’s interest in the 21-year-old when asked about his future, he gave a rather peculiar answer. Here’s what he had to say about his future via The Mirror:
“I don’t know what will happen in the next few days.”
At 21, Gravenberch is a player looking for regular game time to fuel his growth and development, and that’s understandable. The midfielder’s aspiration aligns with his desire to play more often this season, a goal that could come true as the landscape changes. Gravenberch itself is also in disrepair. As transfer rumors continue to swirl, the midfielder remains uncertain about his own fate. Whether he has the option to leave Bayern Munich before the transfer window closes remains unanswered.
What future for Gravenberch?
Gravenberch’s “I don’t know” quote sums up the dilemma he faces. As the deadline approaches, factors beyond his control come into play, including negotiations with the club, board decisions and the complexity of the transfer market.
The path of a young player like Gravenberch is marked by important decisions that can shape the trajectory of his career. Moving to a new league, a new club and a new environment is certainly the promise of new challenges, growth and the opportunity to showcase one’s abilities on a big stage.
For Liverpool and Manchester United, Gravenberch’s appeal lies not only in his current skills but also in the potential he possesses.
As the hours pass, the landscape of the Gravenberch quarry can certainly change. His future could take him to iconic Premier League stadiums or see him continue his journey with Bayern Munich. The uncertainty surrounding his situation certainly reflects the inherent unpredictability of the transfer window itself.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk could face a two-match ban for arguing with the referee.
According to The Times’ Paul Joyce (registration required), Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk could face an extended suspension for a red card after disagreeing with the referee.
About half an hour into the match against Newcastle United, van Dijk passed Alexander Isak to pick up the ball. As the last defender in this phase, referee John Brooks had no choice but to send the Dutchman off the field. Although sweet, the nature of the foul deserves a red card. In response, the 32-year-old used vulgar language to argue with the referee and even had a small argument with fourth referee Craig Pawson on his way off the pitch.
The FA will investigate the incident and make a timely decision on the length of the player’s suspension. The direct red card sent him suspended for Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.
If the FA considers his comments and actions towards the referee unprofessional, his ban could be extended by one game. This means the defender could miss the away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 16.
The problem with modern football is that we have cameras everywhere. We’ve all seen van Dijk exaggerate when questioning the referee’s decision.

While he was entitled to stay on and wait for the VAR review, saying choice words was not advisable, especially knowing that he is now the captain of the club.
