‘Your decision’ – James Milner comments on Liverpool exit with Jürgen Klopp claim

The Liverpool midfielder is set to leave the club after eight years of exemplary service

Outgoing Liverpool midfielder James Milner has seemingly revealed that Jurgen Klopp wants him to stay with him this season.

The 37-year-old was one of four players this week to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June, ending an impressive eight-year stint at Anfield.

During his time on Merseyside, Milner excelled as a professional and deservedly earned a guard of honor from his teammates after the final whistle. Shortly after, cries of ‘there is only one James Milner’ rang out in the stadium, making it clear how the 37-year-old is held in high regard by the fans.

Some fans had hoped the 2019 Champions League winner would sign a one-year contract extension like he did last summer and Milner apparently hinted that Klopp would have kept him at the club if he did. had the power. Commenting on his upcoming departure from LFCTV, the veteran midfielder said: “It would be a shame to retire when you have some life left.” Jurgen Klopp is a very good manager and the fact that he always wanted me here, he said. I can still do work that I love. I haven’t released many games this year, but I feel like I’ve contributed when asked to do so.

“The club has obviously made up its mind about this. It’s nice to be in a position where the manager wanted me to stay, but there came a time when I had to accept it.”

Milner came on in the 72nd minute on Saturday afternoon as the Reds tried to turn the game around against Aston Villa. As he neared the end of his eight-year stint with the club, Milner celebrated one last game at home. Brighton are expected to win the bid for the highly experienced professional, although Leeds United are believed to be among other parties interested in a deal. As if confirming he will stay in the division next season, Milner told BBC Sport following the 1-1 draw with BBC Sport: ‘It was a special moment. I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy myself here. It’s a special place. Maybe I’ll play again here, who knows”.

Reflecting on his successful spell at Liverpool, where the former Manchester City lifted major trophies, he added: “The trophy Liverpool always wanted was the league title and to leave after eight years and have done that, that’s what you hope will happen. I think every time you win a trophy it’s special. This is what a club like this is asking for. The national title was what we wanted and winning it was special.

“I had a great time here. I am satisfied. I’m happy with the track and the team I’m part of and the success we’ve contributed to the history of the club. There’s still one game left, it would be nice to finish with a win. I’ve been available most of the year, done my bit and still feel good. Age is just a number.”
