Celebration at Old Trafford Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim arrives at Man United to sign the takeover deal (deal 100% done by Fabrizio Romano)

Manchester United are in the process of being sold and one of the candidates to buy the Red Devils is Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

In recent months, rumors have swirled about Qatar Sports Investments being involved in Al Thani’s bid to become the new owner of Manchester United.

However, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi broke his silence on the matter and denied any significant involvement, saying he merely acted as an adviser.

“To be honest, you make me laugh,” said Al-Khelaifi (h/t Canal Supporters). “Of course, I am Qatari. I am often asked about investments etc. by various European associations. … Of course, I would give my opinion if asked; I would do it for anyone, not just Manchester United. (…) PSG is my club; it’s in my heart. There is nothing else.

“As president of the ECA, I would like to have better competitions and therefore better clubs. If someone in France came to me to ask me this kind of question, I too would answer and express my opinion on this and that. I want the best for France, for all leagues and all European competitions.”

QSI has begun buying minority stakes in several clubs to expand its profile. However, PSG’s ownership was not fully taken over as it was in 2011, when QSI became the new owner of the French giants.

It will be interesting to see who wins the Manchester United race as, alongside Al Thani, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is also in the fray to become the new owner of Old Trafford.
