David de Gea suddenly confirms Man Utd exit with message to fans

Spain goalkeeper David de Gea has been part of the Manchester United squad for over a decade, but the former Atletico Madrid star has confirmed his time at Old Trafford is over.

David de Gea has sent Manchester United fans a moving farewell message, confirming his departure from Old Trafford.

“Just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United fans,” he wrote on social media. “I want to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love of the past 12 years.

“We have achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I was incredibly proud every time I put on this shirt. It has been an honor to lead the team and represent this institution. The biggest club in the world was an honour.” is only awarded to a few lucky footballers. “It has been an unforgettable and successful time since I arrived here. I never thought that if we left Madrid as a kid, we would achieve what we did together. Now is the right time to take on a new challenge to push me once again in a new environment. De Gea first joined United in 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still manager at Old Trafford. He won his first Premier League title with the club in 2012/13, Ferguson’s last season in charge.

The Spain international has been linked with moves in the past. He was close to leaving for Real Madrid in the summer of 2015, only for the La Liga club to blame fax problems for the deal which fell apart in the 11th hour.
