Mason Mount told Man Utd what was expected of him after ‘difficult’ time at Chelsea

Mason Mount joined Manchester United for £60million and Red Devils legend Andy Cole hopes the former Chelsea midfielder can help his former club win the money

“Louis Saha shares his opinion on signing Mason Mount for man udt.”

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole hopes Mason Mount can guide the Red Devils into the ‘next phase’ after leaving Chelsea.

Mount completed a £60m move, with United spending £55m upfront and a further £5m on add-ons. And Cole, who scored more than 100 goals for United and helped them win five Premier League titles, believes Mount can put a “difficult” last season at Chelsea behind and thrive at Old Trafford.

“Obviously it’s a positive sign,” Cole told Sky Sports. “I’m crossing my fingers that everything goes well for him.” He had a difficult season at Chelsea last season, not playing as many games as he would have liked.

“I hope he can come to Manchester United, have fun and take Manchester United to the next level.” And Mount himself says he decided to go to United to “win big trophies”.

He said: “It’s never easy to leave the club you grew up with, but Manchester United will be an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know how strong I am to join and I can’t I look forward to being part of this group’s drive to win big trophies.

“Everyone sees that the club has made great strides under Erik ten Hag. After meeting the manager and discussing his plans, I look forward to the seasons to come and am ready for the hard work that is expected here. “I am extremely ambitious. I know how great it is to win big trophies and what it takes to get there. I will give everything to relive that at Manchester United.”

Mount missed the end of the 2022-23 season through injury but could make his competitive debut for his new club on August 14 when United host Wolves in the Premier League opener. He will have to wait until December for a Chelsea reunion, with the first league game between his former club and his new club taking place at Old Trafford.
