David de Gea 'spotted' in Manchester amid speculation over shock Man Utd return

David de Gea has been spotted in Manchester amid speculation that he could return to Manchester United.

De Gea called time on his 12-year career at United in July, confirming he would leave the club after winning the Golden Glove award last season.

As a result, Erik ten Hag was forced into the summer transfer market, signing Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47 million.

However, the 27-year-old hasn’t had the easiest start to life at Old Trafford, making a number of costly mistakes between the sticks, some of which have left fans questioning whether they should have let De Gea go.

The 32-year-old has now added fuel to speculation that he could return to United after he took to Instagram to post a picture of himself at a padel tennis court in Manchester.

Indeed, De Gea could provide useful cover should Onana choose to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.

De Gea is yet to sign for a new club and remains a free agent, meaning Ten Hag could attempt to re-sign the player, with the Spaniard continuing a high-intensity solo training regime off the pitch.

However, reports have claimed De Gea is keen to to live in his home country of Spain, while he is also said to be considering retireme

It remains to be seen whether De Gea’s visit had anything to do with his former club, but fans have put two and two together, and reckon United could try and sign him on a temporary deal.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Possible short term contract till season ends?”

“OMG YES PLEASE SIGN HIM,” another added.

“Omds he’s coming back,” a third chimed in.bre

A fourth remarked: “Onana should be worried,” while a fifth wrote: “De Gea as a number 2 will surely put pressure on Onana to perform.”

Man Utd ‘plotting move for two Brazilian wonderkids’ who could cost £100m

Man Utd 'plotting move for two Brazilian wonderkids' who could cost £100m

Manchester United are reportedly considering signing two Brazilian wonderkids in a double transfer swoop which could end up costing the club as much as £100m.

United already have several talented South American players on their books including Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri.

And reports claim the Premier League club could be looking to add more overseas talent to Erik ten Hag’s squad.

According to the Daily Mail, United scouts recently travelled to South America, where they were impressed by two 17-year-old Brazilians.

Palmeiras midfielder Luis Guilherme and Flamengo’s Lorran, also a midfielder, are reported to have caught the eye of the United scouts.

Guilherme is a Brazil U20 international and has become a regular in Palmeiras’ first team, making 23 appearances in all competitions this season.

Lorran has had far less first-team football for his club side Flamengo, making only four senior appearances, but he has already starred for Brazil’s U17 side.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United’s interest in the pair but claims Ten Hag’s side could face competition for their signatures from several European clubs – including Chelsea.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Keep an eye also on Manchester United in South America because in recent weeks Manchester United, as I told you, sent their scouts, as well as Chelsea, to follow Lorran from Flamengo, this talented Brazilian boy.

“Man Utd scouts were in attendance to follow this player. But from what I’m hearing, there is also one more player being monitored by Manchester United.

“This is Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, one more Brazilian talent. Someone from Manchester United’s scouting department is travelling around Brazil to keep an eye on these playerr

“Let’s see what is going to happen because, for example, on Luis Guilherme there are more than five important European clubs – from Germany, from England, from different countries – so, work in progress on that one. But let’s see what Man Utd will decide to do because they are scouting many players also in South America.”

If United are to land the pair, they may have to pay nearly £100m.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that Guilherme has a £52m release clause in his contract, while Lorran has similar £43m clause.

It is unlikely United would be willing to pay such fees for unproven talents, although the success of the likes of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo – who moved to Real Madrid for similar fees while still teenagers – may convince the English club to submit sizeable offers.

David de Gea makes feelings on Man Utd clear with social media post ahead of Galatasaray clash

David de Gea makes feelings on Man Utd clear with social media post ahead of Galatasaray clash

David de Gea has sent a defiant message to Lisandro Martinez ahead of Manchester United’s crunch Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

The Red Devils resume their European campaign when they host Galatasaray on Tuesday, with fans convinced they’ll lose after learning who manages the Turkish champions.

It will be their second fixture in the competition following their crushing 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich last month.

And ahead of the Old Trafford showdown, Erik ten Hag has a selection headache at the back, with Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Martinez all ruled out for a period of time.

The Argentine defender aggravated the foot injury he sustained earlier in the year as he faces a spell on the sidelines.

Former Man United star De Gea has reached out to his ex-teammate as he sent him a message online.

Taking to Instagram, he posted a picture of himself with Martinez, accompanied with the caption: “Stay strong warrior.”

De Gea’s message to Martinez comes months after he was released by Man United following 12 years at the club.

He played every league game last season as he won the Premier League Golden Glove award.

The 32-year-old, who was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, is still a free-agent, with the real reason he has yet to find a new club coming to light.

Ten Hag snapped up Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47.2 million during the summer transfer window, with statistics comparing them against each other following the Cameroon international’s tough start.

Despite De Gea’s somewhat unceremonious departure at Man United, he still has them in his heart and is seemingly keeping a close eye on them this season.

David de Gea posts cryptic ‘juggling’ tweet amid Man Utd contract uncertainty

David de Gea posts cryptic 'juggling' tweet amid Man Utd contract uncertainty

David de Gea has posted another cryptic tweet amid uncertainty over his Manchester United futu

Last month talks between De Gea and United failed to produce a resolution and the 32-year-old became a free agent, with his contract expiring last Friday.

It has been claimed De Gea had, in fact, signed a new contract extension months ago, only for the Old Trafford club to withdraw the offer and come back with reduced terms.

De Gea and United remain locked in negotiations over a potential new deal, and amid talks continuing between the parties, the Spanish shot-stopper has posted a cryptic tweet

De Gea, who tied the knot with long-term partner Edurne last Saturday, tweeted a “juggling emoji” on Thursday, potentially in reference to the difficulty of balancing married life and his contract situation.

Indeed, the tweet comes a week after the shot-stopper shared a yawn emoji on Twitter, amid growing speculation over his future.

Man Utd goalkeeper search

According to Sky Sports News United remain in talks with Inter as they work to find a compromise over the fee for Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian could reportedly be sold for a fee in the region of £45million (€52.5million) with add-ons.

The Champions League finalists are said to value Onana at around £51million (€60million) and they have publicly claimed he will remain at the club unless that figure is met.

On Wednesday United submitted an opening £38.5million (€45million) bid for the player, which was subsequently rejected.

The 27-year-old is reportedly keen to move to Old Trafford and reunite with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.

United have also been linked to Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Erik ten Hag is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper irrespective of the outcome of De Gea’s contract talks.

While De Gea won the Golden Glove award last term having claimed 16 clean sheets, the goalkeeper cost his team in a number of crucial moments, including in the FA Cup against Manchester

David Ornstein reveals what he’s heard about Erik ten Hag amid Man Utd sack speculation

David Ornstein reveals what he's heard about Erik ten Hag amid Man Utd sack speculation

David Ornstein has set the record straight on Erik ten Hag amid speculation over the Dutchman’s long-term future at Manchester United.

Ten Hag finds himself under huge pressure early on in the season after a disappointing start to the campaign.

United are currently 10th in the Premier League going into Saturday’s match against Brentford and have already lost six games in all competitions, after suffering a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Galatasaray on Tuesday.

Reports claim there is a ‘toxic’ atmosphere in the Old Trafford dressing room, with Ten Hag struggling to deal with several unwanted distractions.

Jadon Sancho is currently banished from the first-team after falling out with his manager, while several other players are reported to be unhappy with their roles under the Dutchman.

The loss of form of last season’s top scorer, Marcus Rashford, is another cause for concern, while the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the sale of the club has only added to the negative atmosphere at Old Trafford.

United’s poor start has led the speculation on social media that Ten Hag could be sacked if results fail to improve in the coming weeks.

ADVERT

However, respected journalist David Ornstein claims that Ten Hag’s position is not under immediate threat and he retains the full backing of the club’s owners.

Responding to a question during a Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein said: “As far as I know, Manchester United remain fully behind Ten Hag and – in my opinion – rightly so.

“He might not be perfect (who is?) and I’m sure he would admit he has not done everything right (who does?). However, the Dutchman oversaw clear progress and success last season, admittedly at significant expense.

“That shifted expectations and more spending further upped the ante. Yet some of the circumstances he has had / is having to deal with on and off the pitch are legitimate mitigating factors.

“In my view, United (like Chelsea) can’t keep chopping and changing managers and hope to advance in a sustainable way. Talking of which, it would be very costly to get rid of Ten Hag at a time when it sounds like United aren’t in the best FFP position.

“Admittedly it only takes a glance at what happened to [Jose] Mourinho and [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer to know how quickly things can unravel, especially at Old Trafford, and don’t forget they were sacked not long after signing new contracts, which indicated United did have ‘long-term’ faith in them at the time.

“To answer your questions specifically, I think and hope Ten Hag will get a lot more time and support. And it’s not only him we should be scrutinising but the ownership, the wider football set-up and the players as well.

“Ultimately it’s a results business and we know what happens if they don’t come over a prolonged period. United will desperately hope to get back on track against a buoyant Brentford on Saturday and then reset over the international break.”
