A shock managerial candidate for Manchester United has emerged if Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team decide to sack Erik ten Hag.

The British billionaire is on the verge of completing his purchase of a minority stake within Man United after Sheikh Jassim pulled out of the bidding war.

His offer is thought to be for a 25 per cent stake worth £1.4 billion as part of a stage buyout of the entire club.

Ten Hag is thought to have Ratcliffe’s backing despite an underwhelming start to the 2023/24 season, with the Red Devils already suffering four Premier League defeats.

They’ve also lost their opening two fixtures in the Champions League as the odds were slashed on the Dutchman to be sacked last month.

Erik ten Hag gives cold update on Jadon Sancho’s Man Utd future

If Ratcliffe’s team decide to relieve Ten Hag of his duties at Man United, Graham Potter could be a possible replacement, according to Alan Nixon.

Former cycling boss Sir Dave Brailsford, who could become part of Man United’s committee, is a fan of Potter and wanted him at Nice.

The 48-year-old is out of work following his dismissal at Chelsea in April.

He had rose to fame after producing managerial heroics at Brighton, where he enjoyed three-and-bit seasons at the club.

During his time at the AMEX Stadium outfit, the Englishman secured their highest top flight finish of ninth place in the 2021/22 season.

He then landed the Chelsea job but failed to deliver at Stamford Bridge.

The 48-year-old has been linked with the likes of Rangers and Lyon, with a return to the Premier League supposedly on the cards.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted Man Utd to sign five world-class players in dream debut transfer window

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted Manchester United to sign five world class players over the summer.

Ratcliffe is on the verge of completing the purchase of a minority stake within United after rival bidder Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the race to buy the club.

Ratcliffe’s offer is thought to be for a 25% stake worth £1.4 billion as part of a staged buyout from the Glazers.

The British businessman will also gain control of United’s sporting decisions and their transfer strategy, as claimed by David Ornstein.

Supporters may have been left concerned by some of Ratcliffe’s previous transfer decisions as owner of Ligue 1 side Nice.

However, the Red Devils’ transfer window could have looked very different had he completed a takeover of United earlier in the year.

Ratcliffe previously identified five players he would be keen to bring to Old Trafford.

That’s according to Football Transfers, who claimed in March that the 71-year-old was keen to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and central defender Axel Disasi, who subsequently joined Chelsea over the summer.

The publication adds that one of Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Frenkie de Jong were also being considered to help boost United’s midfield.

However, Bellingham ended up joining Real Madrid, with Rice joining Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Ratcliffe was also reportedly eager to tie Marcus Rashford down to a new contract. Fortunately, the Englishman put pen to paper on a fresh deal in July, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2028.

But even without the financial backing of Ratcliffe, Erik ten Hag was still able to splash over £200 million over the summer on Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

While the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Sofyan Amrabat and Altay Bayindir all arrived on loan.

Carlo Ancelotti ‘approached to replace Erik ten Hag’ at Man Utd

Carlo Ancelotti 'approached to replace Erik ten Hag' at Man Utd

Carlo Ancelotti has been ‘approached to replace Erik ten Hag’ at Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to the new campaign and currently sit 10th in the Premier League table.

While their form hasn’t been much better in Europe, either. United currently sit bottom of their Champions League group after consecutive defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

As a result, the odds have been slashed on Ten Hag to be sacked, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s alleged assurances that the Dutchman will stay in a job if he resumes the role of sporting director at Old Trafford.

However, a report from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito has linked Ancelotti with the United job, should the Italian decide to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Journalist Benjamin Lopez stated: “Ancelotti has two things decided about his future, one is that if they offer him a renewal he will remain at Madrid. Brazil can put whatever they want on the table, he will stay.”

Elaborating on Ancelotti’s situation, Lopez revealed that apart from Brazil, he has an offer from the Canadian National Team and Manchester United.

Lopez continued: “He has a house in Vancouver and his wife is Canadian so he would be delighted with that.

“The last is not an offer in writing but has been sent to him verbally through his agent, it’s from the Premier League and Manchester United. They would take him tomorrow.”

Although Ancelotti’s is said to be against a return to the Premier League, after previously taking charge of Everton between 2019 and 2021.

Lopez adds that the 64-year-old’s personal preference would be to extend his contract at the Bernabeu, depending on how the season unfolds.

Man Utd ‘launch major investigation’ into injury issues after Erik ten Hag concern

Man Utd 'launch major investigation' into injury issues after Erik ten Hag concern

Manchester United have launched an internal investigation into the excessive number of injuries Erik ten Hag’s side has endured in the early stages of the campaign, a report has claimed.

United have had their worst start to a Premier League season in 37 years, in part, due to a score of injuries inflicted on Ten Hag’s squad.

After eight Premier League games, United have already had 16 players out of action for a period.

Indeed, summer signings Rasmus Hojlund, Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount and Sergio Reguilon are among several players who have been sidelined through injury, meaning Ten Hag has not yet been afforded the privilege of naming his preferred starting XI.

And it appears the club are now set to dig deeper and uncover why they have faced so many injuries.

According to the Mail, United officials are ‘actively’ inquiring to see whether there are any patters in a bid to help allay the ongoing fitness problems.

While some issues have been impact injuries, difficult for the club to influence, others have been muscular problems, which United will reportedly look to crack down on.

United staff are said to be attempting to determine whether or not those injuries have been sustained due to the high volume of games last season, with the World Cup mid-season having led to a convoluted domestic campaign.

Indeed, United and Manchester City played more games than any other team in the Premier League last year, such was their success in the cup competitions.

United hired former Arsenal head of medical services Gary O’Driscoll in the summer to fill a similar role at Old Trafford, with the recruit having only officially taken on the job last week.

Last month Ten Hag admitted that he was concerned by the number of injuries sustained by his side.

The Dutchman explained: “One thing is true, from the start of last season I almost never started with the best starting XI, it was always something like an injury.

“But you have to deal with it and we always get the results, apart from the period we are in now. It’s a concern but that’s why we constructed the squad with depth, so we can deal with it. The squad can deal with it.

“Injuries always come in top football because we’re living on the edge and injuries are coming up. We analyse why things happen but we also have to deal with the facts and it’s always about the players available. We have a strong side and we have to get the best out of it.”

Man Utd midfielder Casemiro at risk of being axed by Erik ten Hag due to five areas of concern

Man Utd midfielder Casemiro at risk of being axed by Erik ten Hag due to five areas of concern

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is at risk of being axed by Erik ten Hag due to five areas of concern.

The 31-year-old established himself as a stalwart of the Red Devils’ starting XI last season, and at times looked imperious in front of the back four.

However, he has experienced somewhat of a drop-off this season, having been sent off in Manchester United’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and hooked at half-time against Brentford in the Premier League.

The international break brought little relief. The Brazilian had to be substituted after picking up a knock in their 1-1 draw with Venezuela and, despite returning against Uruguay a few days later, he was unable to prevent a 2-0 defeat.

And a quick look at the numbers tell you that Casemiro’s downturn in form may be a serious concern for Ten Hag.

Sky Sports have produced a comparison between the former Real Madrid midfielder last season to this campaign, focusing on five key areas.

On average last season, Casemiro recorded 3.8 tackles every 90 minutes, compared to 2.7 this term.

While he registered 1.4 interceptions, exactly double that of this season. He won 7.5 duels, compared to 5.8 and 8.7 ball recoveries compared to a meagre 6.

Finally, he was dribbled past an average of 1.9 times compared to 2.1 this campaign.

The report adds that “among all Premier League players since the start of last season, only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Brentford’s Mathias Jensen have been dribbled past more times than Casemiro on 64”.

But while the numbers don’t flatter, Casemiro hasn’t been helped by those around him. United have conceded three or more times on four separate occasions this season, suggesting it is an entire squad issue.
