Latest Liverpool injury news: four Chelsea misses, Darwin Nunez return and Luis Diaz punch

Chelsea news, as Liverpool are next for the Blues on Tuesday night and look to boost their Champions League ambitions this season

Chelsea have no time to dwell on last weekend’s 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa. The defeat was the Blues’ tenth in the Premier League and resulted in Graham Potter leaving the club.

Potter was sacked on Sunday night after losing the trust of the club’s hierarchy. Former Brighton right-back Bruno Saltor will oversee for the foreseeable future as Todd Boehly looks for a replacement.

“It’s a big challenge,” he said on Monday. “I’ve only been a coach for four years, but I’ve been in football for 20 years. I start very early and have a lot of experience in the dressing room.

“I will try to help the players guide them because I have been in these situations before. Then I feel like I can help, especially young players who have never been in this situation before.”

Bruno’s first challenge comes against Liverpool on Tuesday. The Reds, like Chelsea, endured an underperforming season from start to finish and sit eight points behind the top four.

Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City was their ninth defeat of the season and presents them with a huge challenge as they seek to bring the Champions League to Anfield next season. They arrive at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday to immediately end a three-game losing streak. However, they face some injury woes ahead of their trip to the capital.

Striker Luis Díaz has been out since December and is yet to return for Jurgen Klopp. He wasn’t due to return until after the international break in March, but he didn’t make an appearance against Man City.

Klopp confirmed on Monday that the Colombian will not play against Chelsea. “No, he’s not available,” said the German. “But he’s in training but he’s not ready for this game. Even though we want him back, we still have to give him time.”

Liverpool’s midfield concerns will continue against the Blues. Thiago has been out since February with a hip injury and will continue to watch from the sidelines despite training with his teammates. “We had Thiago in training yesterday, in normal team training, that’s good too, but of course he won’t be available tomorrow,” Klopp added. Luckily for Liverpool, they have Darwin Nunez available after he was introduced at the Etihad Stadium midway through the second half. The Uruguayan missed the international break with a cut foot and could return to the starting eleven on Tuesday.

Naby Keita faces the possibility of not playing this season after returning from international play for Guinea with a muscle injury. However, youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsey are out for the rest of the season.
