Liverpool Confirm Preseason Friendly Matches
The Reds, who won two trophies last season and dropped a few more, headed to Asia for next season. Liverpool played 63 games during the 2021-2022 season, enjoying every game at their disposal, and will be looking to get back in contention for more major honors at home and abroad when a new season kicks off.
The Reds are now holders of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup but were tagged on the post by Manchester City in the Premier League title race and Real Madrid in the Champions League final as Jurgen Klopp’s side fell just short in a historic quadruple offer.Confidence is high that more of the same can be delivered next season, with the potential to finalize further transfer matters, and GOAL are on hand to give you everything you need to know about Liverpool’s on-pitch plans ahead of the summer of 2022.
Liverpool returned for training on 4 July, before heading to Thailand to kick off their pre-season matches. An encounter with old opponents Manchester United took place at the Bangkok Century Cup, in a match billed as ‘The Match’, but the Reds suffered a 4–0 defeat
From there, Klopp’s men traveled to Singapore for a Standard Chartered Cup clash with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, where they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah, before meeting RB Leipzig in Germany they won. 5-0 thanks to a new attack by Salah and four goals by new signing Darwin Nunez.
Red Bull Salzburg secured a 1-0 victory over the Reds on 27 July, before the curtain fell on 30 July in their Community Shield clash against Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side secured their first trophy in that match at the King Power Stadium, Leicester.
Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the first half before Julian Alvarez equalized for City after 70 minutes.
Mohamed Salah restored the Reds’ lead with a penalty before Darwin Nunez settled the score in stoppage time. The Reds returned to their homeland a day later to face French side Strasbourg at Anfield, who were on course to win 3-0 against weakened Liverpool.
