Liverpool transfer news as $76m move ‘completed’ and 19-goal man wants to sign for Jürgen Klopp

Liverpool transfer news: The Reds have reportedly agreed a $76m transfer ahead of Manchester United, while a 19-goal forward says he wants to move to Anfield.

Liverpool, it appears, will not be playing Champions League football next season. After drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa at Anfield, the gap now looks too big, with too few fixtures remaining for it to be closed.

Nothing, though, will be changing on the transfers front. It remains true that Liverpool needs an overhaul this summer, and Roberto FirminoJames MilnerNaby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all already been confirmed as departing.

That might yet be the final time that Reds supporters get the chance to see some others at Anfield too, with more exits possible beyond those four and plenty of arrivals needed to cover the gaps left behind

There are a number of players being considered to fill those roles, with Jürgen Klopp confirming heading into this weekend that Liverpool is looking at every position apart from in goal in terms of recruitment.

A center-back would be more likely than a forward even with Firmino leaving, but it is not only the midfield that needs supplementing if Liverpool is to get back on track next year.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with a big claim emerging from South America about Alexis Mac Allister amid strong interest from Klopp’s side.

Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton)

Liverpool has agreed the transfer of Alexis Mac Allister in the summer, according to media reports in his homeland of Argentina, with the 24-year-old Brighton midfielder a priority target for the Reds.

TyC Sports (translated by Sport Witness) reports that a transfer move worth around $76m (£61m/€70m) has been negotiated and the deal is done ahead of the final match of the campaign.

The ‘deal is complete’, the report states, and Mac Allister will join a ‘global giant’ in Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano had earlier stated on Twitter that Liverpool had agreed personal terms with the World Cup winner, though Manchester United is also interested in signing him in the upcoming transfer window.

Liverpool.com says: It does not appear that Mac Allister will be at Brighton next season, and there is an admission of that from the south coast side. A fee of around $76m (including add-ons) would seem reasonable and Liverpool will be getting a player who has had an exceptional season. Crucially, Mac Allister is already Premier League proven and ready to hit the ground running.

Gift Orban (Gent)

In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness), Gent wonderkid Gift Orban has stated that he would like to move to the Premier League in the future, with Liverpool named as a possible team for him to join.

“Playing in a big league,” he said when asked to name his ‘craziest football dream’. “At a club where I feel comfortable and where I play. The Premier League is my ultimate dream. Manchester United, Liverpool or Manchester City.

“I don’t really like Arsenal that much — it’s like they don’t want to win titles. They play and sell players — that’s it. I want to go somewhere where they win prizes. At Real Madrid they don’t have time for tiki-taka, there they just grab titles.”

Liverpool.com says: Lille is looking at replacing Jonathan David with Orban this summer after the 20-year-old scored 19 goals in as many matches for his current club. The Ligue 1 side certainly knows a talent when it spots one, so Orban is one to watch. With comments like those, he definitely backs himself to get right to the top.

‘The noises I’m hearing’: Virgil van Dijk says he’s heard something ‘very exciting’ about Liverpool next season

Virgil van Dijk has declared his excitement about playing for Liverpool in the new campaign, with this pre-season expected to be the biggest in recent years.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, the Dutch international revealed that noises around the Liverpool camp indicate that pre-season will be an intense one this summer, with Jurgen Klopp expected to whip his squad back into shape to challenge for the Premier League title.

Liverpool are expected to finish fifth in the top-flight this campaign and miss out on UEFA Champions League football, yet despite this, there is a true aura of excitement around the club over what could happen next term, and a good pre-season can act as a springboard for such a year.

Indeed, new signings are already expected, particularly in central midfield, and for Van Dijk, the Liverpool centre-back is excited for what’s to come from Liverpool this season both on and off the pitch as pre-season slowly creeps up on the calendar.

Van Dijk said: “The noises I’m hearing, it’s going to be a very intense pre-season with a lot of physical work but also a lot of tactical work trying to get ready for a tough season. That’s very exciting. Players are leaving, hopefully players come in and will be ready for the start of pre-season.”

A strong pre-season can often set the benchmark for a strong year for a club, and Liverpool will be hopeful of doing just that this year, with new signings and an evolved tactical system from Klopp the two key factors that will be spurring the Reds on this summer.

Fresh faces alone could be enough to reinvigorate the team, yet pre-season training and an intense schedule that could get Liverpool back up to scratch could be the boost Van Dijk and the squad need to return to their world-class best for next year.
