Marcus Rashford signs new Manchester United contract and explains why he’s staying
Despite interest from PSG, Marcus Rashford has entrusted his long-term future to Man United.
Rashford remains
Marcus Rashford has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United.
The Manchester Evening News reported four weeks ago that the 25-year-old was set to sign a contract extension with his boyhood club.
Rashford, 25, had entered the final year of his previous contract and his brother and agent Dwaine Maynard met with Paris Saint-Germain officials last August.
However, Rashford has given his future to United on a £325,000-a-week contract after scoring 30 goals in his best 2022/23 season, which won him the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. Even Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United can struggle!
Rashford said: “I arrived at Manchester United aged seven with a dream. That same passion, pride and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honor of wearing the shirt.
“I have already had some good experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot to do and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years to come.
“As a lifelong United fan, I know the responsibility that comes with wearing this badge and feel its ups and downs as much as anyone. I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team. Help us reach the level we are capable of, and I feel the same determination in the locker room. I couldn’t be more excited about the future under this manager.”
United director of football John Murtough added: “Since he joined our academy 18 years ago, Marcus has embodied what it takes to be successful as a Manchester United player.
“He is a brilliant talent, but also humble, dedicated and motivated. As he enters his prime, we know there is so much more to come from him and we see the hunger Marcus feels to achieve the highest level of success here at Manchester United.
“Working with Erik ten Hag and his coaches is the perfect environment for Marcus to further develop into one of the best attacking players in the world.”
Rashford made his United debut aged 18 in February 2016, when he was promoted to the starting lineup for the Europa League knockout match against Midtjylland in the warm-up. He scored twice in a 5-1 win. Three days later, Rashford scored twice on his Premier League debut in a 3-2 win over Arsenal. He played 359 times and scored 123 goals for the club.
Rashford won two League Cups, the FA Cup and the Europa League, during his seven-and-a-half years with United’s first team.
United have also signed new contracts for Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho in the past four months.
