Manchester United set to make staff change amid new transfer policy
Manchester United are said to be looking to hire a new type of scouting staff as Erik ten Hag continues to change the club’s transfer policy.
Since the arrival of Erik ten Hag and the departure of former Chief Executive Officer Ed Woodward, Manchester United have been looking to change their transfer policy.
Under Woodward, the club often tried to sign “blockbuster” stars both on the field and in the coaching department, with names such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, and Jose Mourinho being just some of those who have been recruited in the last decade.
Although this approach has brought temporary success to the club, with the likes of Jose Mourinho winning three accolades at the club and Ronaldo having a fantastic scoring season during 2021/22, it has been unsustainable.
With Ten Hag’s arrival, the transfer policy has switched much more towards signing names that the manager feels will benefit his side to the maximum as opposed to already renowned stars, with examples such as Andrè Onana, Lisandro Martínez, and Rasmus Højlund coming to mind.
Of course, the club have still looked to sign the highest quality where possible, such as the signing of Casemiro in 2022, but the club are now looking to acquire a new type of scout.
This is according to the information of Alan Nixon, who has explained that the club are looking to sign a scout with the specific instruction of scouting “rising stars” in a bid to continue their successes of building young players rather than buying finished products.
This has been a historic part of United’s heritage, and there are several players under the age of 20 who are shining lights at the club, such as Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, and Hannibal Mejbri – players who, at times, are outperforming the big names at the club.
Further down in the academy is starlet Shea Lacey, who scored twice and assisted a further goal during the U18’s victory over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
