David de Gea sends Man Utd fans into meltdown with latest social media post

David de Gea has sent Manchester United fans into meltdown with his latest social media post.

The Spaniard put an end to his 12-year-career at Old Trafford in July, following the expiry of his contract despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove award last season.

In his place, Erik ten Hag signed Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan, who has endured a difficult start to life in Manchester.

The 27-year-old has been at fault for a number of goals this campaign, making errors in United’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and conceding a soft opener last time out at Old Trafford against Brentford.

Speculation has since arisen among certain corners United’s fan-base that the club could try to re-sign De Gea, who is still without a club.

Rumours circulated after the 32-year-old was spotted at Old Trafford and dining with loan signing Sergio Reguilon.

The shot-stopper has since sent supporters into meltdown once more after he posted a selfie alongside United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, De Gea shared the image accompanied by the caption: “Together again”, alongside a sunglasses emoji.

The pair appear to have been attending an event for Rebels Gaming, a Spanish esports organisation owned by the Spanish goalkeeper

De Gea is said to be living in his family home in Madrid since leaving England, alongside his wife Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay.

Various reports in the summer claimed De Gea turned down a move to Inter Milan, while he was also linked with a transfer to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The former Spain international is reportedly also considering retirement, should he fail to find a suitable club.

Manchester United made it two Premier League wins in a row when they beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.

United led in Yorkshire thanks to Scott McTominay’s opener, though the midfielder gave away a penalty before half-time which Oli McBurnie duly converted to ensure the clash went in level at the break.

Erik ten Hag’s side were on top for much of the second half and looked the more likely one to score, going close when Sofyan Amrabat rattled the woodwork.

But the Old Trafford side got back in front thanks to Diogo Dalot’s curling effort from outside the box – and it proved decisive and secured three valuable points against the Blades.

Harry Maguire has started the last two games for United, the victory over Brentford and now the clash against the Blades, the club where the defender came through the youth team ranks at.

The 30-year-old England international has endured some difficult times in recent months, with question marks surrounding his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Having fallen down the pecking order last season under Ten Hag, he was stripped of the captaincy over the summer and United considered selling the defender, even accepted a bid worth £30m from West Ham United for Maguire.

However, the move to London did not materialise, and Maguire opted to stay at United and fight for his place in the team.

Maguire has put in some good showings of late, and statistics from Bramall Lane show he was top of the tree after putting in a man of the match performance.

According to figures showing ball progression statistics in the Saturday evening encounter, Maguire was top for both passing and carrying the ball forwards.

It puts him ahead of United team-mates such as Bruno Fernandes, Amrabat, Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen.

In fact he was top of the pile by some margin in the game, showing the quality he does possess and what he can do when in a rich vein of form.

The reason why David de Gea is back in Manchester amid Man Utd return speculation

The reason why David de Gea is back in Manchester amid Man Utd return speculation

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been spotted back in Manchester amid ongoing speculation over his future.

De Gea, 32, is currently a free agent after leaving United at the end of last season when his contract expired.

The Spaniard was replaced as No 1 by new signing Andre Onana, who has struggled since joining from Inter Milan in the summer.

De Gea has kept tight-lipped about his future, leading to speculation he may choose to retire rather than continue his professional career.

The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper set tongues wagging on Tuesday when he posted an image to his Instagram account of himself back in Manchester.

That prompted a wave of comments urging United to re-sign the Spaniard, with some fans even speculating that a return to Old Trafford was already in the works.

However, the Daily Mail have now confirmed the real reason for De Gea’s return to England.

“The Spanish goalkeeper returned to the UK on Monday and is spending a few days sorting out the house in Hale where he lived until leaving United after 12 years at the end of June,” read the report.

“De Gea has since joined his pop star partner Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay at the family home in Madrid. The couple got married in Menorca last summer.”

The report went on to claim that De Gea is yet to make a decision over his next career move.

“It’s understood that De Gea – who turns 33 next month – is relaxed over his future as he enjoys some well-earned family time, and is not rushing to find a new club,” added the report.

“That may change in January but after spending his last four years at Old Trafford earning £375,000-a-week, he can afford to bide his time.”

David de Gea has met up with one of Manchester United’s new signings amid speculation the shot stopper could return to Old Trafford.

De Gea ended a 12-year-spell at United this summer, leaving upon the expiry of his contract despite having claimed the Premier League Golden Glove award last season.

In his place, the Old Trafford club signed Andre Onana, who has endured a topsy-turvy first few months in England.

The Cameroon international was at fault for goals in United’s last two games, making errors in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and conceding a soft opener against Brentford on Saturday.

Speculation has since arisen among sections of the United fan-base that the club could look to sign De Gea on a free transfer, with the keeper still without a club.

Rumours circulated upon the Spaniard’s return to the North West, reportedly to clear out his property in Hale, Cheshire.

De Gea was also spotted showing his support for United’s women’s team at the Leigh Sports Village.

United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Women’s Champions League qualifier, in their debut appearance in the competition.

The 32-year-old has now been pictured at a restaurant alongside United loanee and compatriot Sergio Reguilon.

De Gea posted a picture of the pair on his Instagram story, alongside the caption: “Good to see you amigo.”

The former United goalkeeper is said to be based at his family home in Madrid since leaving England, alongside his wife Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay.

Various reports in the summer claimed De Gea rejected a move to Inter Milan while he was also linked with a transfer to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

It was also suggested last month the former Spain international was considering retirement, however the player is said to merely be considering his options.

David de Gea has been spotted in Manchester amid speculation that he could return to Manchester United.

De Gea called time on his 12-year career at United in July, confirming he would leave the club after winning the Golden Glove award last season.

As a result, Erik ten Hag was forced into the summer transfer market, signing Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47 million.

However, the 27-year-old hasn’t had the easiest start to life at Old Trafford, making a number of costly mistakes between the sticks, some of which have left fans questioning whether they should have let De Gea go.

The 32-year-old has now added fuel to speculation that he could return to United after he took to Instagram to post a picture of himself at a padel tennis court in Manchester.

Indeed, De Gea could provide useful cover should Onana choose to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.

De Gea is yet to sign for a new club and remains a free agent, meaning Ten Hag could attempt to re-sign the player, with the Spaniard continuing a high-intensity solo training regime off the pitch.

However, reports have claimed De Gea is keen to to live in his home country of Spain, while he is also said to be considering retirement.

It remains to be seen whether De Gea’s visit had anything to do with his former club, but fans have put two and two together, and reckon United could try and sign him on a temporary deal.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Possible short term contract till season ends?”

“OMG YES PLEASE SIGN HIM,” another added.

“Omds he’s coming back,” a third chimed in.

A fourth remarked: “Onana should be worried,” while a fifth wrote: “De Gea as a number 2 will surely put pressure on Onana to perform.”
