Deal On: Liverpool set to move in summer for Ajax striker
Ajax striker Mohammed Kudus is reportedly interested in moving to the Premier League next year.
The 22-year-old was in fine form for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup, scoring twice in three appearances as he entered the tournament following a strong start to the season at club level.
Kudus has scored 10 goals and two assists in 21 appearances for his Dutch side this season, including four goals and two assists in the Champions League group stage.
There has been much speculation about his future in recent days, with Newcastle United and Liverpool among the English clubs eager to sign him.
According to The Sun, the versatile striker is open to a move to the Premier League in 2023, but he would only join a club with the Champions League on the table. The report claims that Ajax are likely to demand a fee of around £40m for Kudus, who has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 63 games for the Dutch giants in all competitions.
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly scouted the striker earlier this year, while the Ghana international recently said he was “very close” to joining Everton this summer.
“I was really close to moving to Everton. I thought it would be a good project for me and I felt I had to give it a try. It wasn’t like this season was my first (at Ajax). ), it was my third,” he told Star Connect on Joy TV. “So if I’m not getting the progress I’m looking for, why not try something else?
“I spoke to [Frank] Lampard. I had a conversation with him to find out what project they had for me, what he thought of me and how he saw me as a player because that would definitely be the green light for me to decide if I wanted to transfer. Without a coach there is nothing”.
Barcelona have also taken an interest in Kudus, with the Catalan side’s sporting director Jordi Cruyff revealing the club is “following” him.
“We have been following Mohammed Kudus for more than a year. We can’t say now that Barca want Kudus… but there is interest in him,” Cruyff told RAC1.
“He scores goals and there’s a lot of debate about his position in the Netherlands, so yes, I know him well.”
Kudus started his professional career at Danish club Nordsjaelland, where he scored 14 goals and registered three assists for the club before moving to Amsterdam.
Ghana eventually finished last in their World Cup group after picking up just three points from three games, but were only one point behind South Korea, who qualified second behind Portugal.
