‘Excellent news’: Pep Guardiola provides a positive  update on ‘unique’ 28-year-old Man City player

Jack Grealish’s injury is improving, according to Pep Guardiola, after Manchester City and Chelsea drew 1-1.

The winger left the Champions League match against FC Copenhagen with a limp, thus he was not included in the team to play the Blues at the Etihad.

After just twenty minutes, Grealish had to be substituted due to injury against the Danish team.

The supporters have been anxiously awaiting word on the condition of the England player, who appeared devastated as he walked off at Parken.

When asked about Grealish after the match against Chelsea, Guardiola provided a rather upbeat update.

Grealish could not be involved against Chelsea which was a shame because he played well during the time he was on against Copenhagen and might well have started on Saturday night.

Grealish tends to get the nod in the big games from his manager, for his ability to provide control for City and retain the ball.

He was missed against Chelsea, with Jeremy Doku struggling against Malo Gusto.

Speaking after the game, Pep revealed that Grealish is only set for a relatively short spell on the sidelines with his injury. He said (via mancity.com): “It’s not that much, not that worse than we expect. Maybe 10 days, maybe three weeks, maybe a month. I think it’s less, so it’s good news.”

It has been a frustrating season so far for Grealish, who has already missed a handful of games for City through injury, illness and suspension.

Up to now, he’s made 26 appearances for a total of 1549 minutes.

Good news on Grealish, City need him fit and firing

Guardiola’s update is a little vague but seemingly there was initial worry that he would be out for a lot longer than he actually is. So in that sense, it’s good news.

Grealish – branded ‘unique’ by Pep earlier this season – remains a very important player for City.

It may not have happened for him yet this season, but last term he showed how crucial he is to the way City player en route to the Treble, and was one of the most consistent and key performers.

He hasn’t quite been at it when he’s played this term and Pep recently challenged him to rediscover his mojo.

Hopefully, he can do just that when he returns from his latest setback.
