Pep Guardiola gave an update on his future on Italian TV this weekend

Pep Guardiola is in the final year of his current Manchester City contract and it is possible that this season is his last at the Etihad Stadium.

“Let’s see on my future. I still need to reflect and decide what I want to do,” the Catalan told an Italian TV show this week.. “Leaving City? It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet.

“And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided I would say it… I don’t know either, anything can happen.”

Guardiola has yet to sign a renewal and admitted at the end of last season that he is closer to leaving than staying, albeit has since clarified that does not mean his departure is concrete. Reports in the day following his comments in Italy suggest two options have been laid before him.

Guardiola ‘contacted’ by FA over England job

The Manchester Evening News reported in September that Guardiola would likely make a call on his next steps this winter, and The Times reiterates this. It says the Man City coach will make a decision in the coming weeks and has been contacted by the Football Association as a result.

Guardiola has apparently not yet responded to the FA regarding the England job, with interim boss Lee Carsley not expected to be in the running. Thomas Tuchel has also been linked with the role, albeit the FA has not singled out a preferred candidate as yet.

Guardiola ‘considering’ Man City extension

Meanwhile, a report from the Telegraph claims Guardiola is considering extending his stay at Man City by 12 months. It claims the 53-year-old has been contacted by two other national teams recently, with the manager holding a desire to move into the international realm at some stage.

He is said to want to coach at a World Cup and England would provide a strong chance of that while not having to move country. However, the report claims the most likely scenario sees him pen a one-year extension at City.

The club would like to tie him down for longer but would be delighted if they can convince him to stay on for any amount of further time. At present, the fact remains that Guardiola will leave City next summer with a new deal not yet – but more clarity could soon be given.
