The Dallas Cowboys face an early-season test of their defensive depth following significant updates from head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Cornerback Cobie Durant and safety P.J. Locke are projected to miss multiple weeks. Both players sustained injuries during Sunday’s dominant victory over Washington, leaving a major void in the secondary just as the schedule intensifies.

Durant exited early with a strained hamstring, an injury notoriously difficult to rush back without risking long-term aggravation. Meanwhile, Locke suffered a foot injury that will require extended rest and rehabilitation. Losing two key defensive backs simultaneously severely disrupts the team’s defensive packages and deep-field coverage plans.

With an international matchup against the Baltimore Ravens looming on Sunday, the coaching staff must rapidly adjust their game plan. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will need to elevate reserve players and look into practice squad elevations to fill the gap. The secondary must brace for heavy pressure against elite opposing quarterbacks. Facing a potent Ravens passing attack without Durant and Locke means communication and assignments must be flawless. How the remaining roster steps up during this critical stretch will heavily impact the Cowboys’ early momentum this season.
