Arsenal plan Arsene Wenger role if Mikel Arteta’s title chase goes to last game of season

Arsenal still have a chance of winning their first title in 19 years and are making plans in case their battle for top spot with Manchester City goes down to the final day

Arsenal are set to invite Arsene Wenger to their final game of the season .

Arsenal are planning to invite Arsene Wenger to their final game of the season, if Mikel Arteta’s side are able to take the Premier League title race to the final day.

The Gunners have topped the division for much of the season, but a recent run of four successive games without a win has seen them relinquish their lead. Instead, Manchester City have surged into top spot and hold a one point lead, with a game in hand.

There are just four games left for Arsenal to retake first place, starting with a trip to Newcastle on Sunday. While their hopes of a first title win for 19 years are fading, the Gunners are planning for a final day shootout with City. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal bosses will invite Wenger to their final game of the season, Wolves’ visit on May 28. The invitation will be sent when Arteta’s side still have a chance to win the title.

Wenger was last at an Arsenal game on Boxing Day when the Gunners beat West Ham 3-1. It was his first game at the Emirates since stepping down as Gunners manager five years ago.
With the Frenchman being the last manager to guide them to the title, Arsenal bosses want him to be present when Arteta’s side have a chance to finally end their long trophy drought.

Wenger was last to an Arsenal game on Boxing Day.
Arsenal boss Arteta spent the last five years of his playing career under Wenger. And after the Frenchman was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in January, the Gunners boss named him as one of his biggest influences. “I had a dream of playing for this club and it was because of the way Arsenal played under Arsene. He was so attractive, I think every player wanted to play here! I had an amazing time with him and learned a lot,” he said Arteta in January.

“That pushed me towards the end of my career to become a coach, so it was a huge influence on me. He has helped me at the club and academy to get my badges, and has been an inspiration and always supported me.”

Arteta will need four straight wins to give the Gunners a chance to bring City down. But the Spaniard insists he pays no attention to the results of his side’s title rivals. “We just have to be careful what we have to do and play well to win the games. I don’t know what’s going to happen. They’ve won a lot of games in the last few months and if they continue for that they’ll deserve it. to win the league,” he said.
“If they don’t, we have to be ready to win our games to be there. It depends more on the players. We don’t know what they’re thinking right now, or what they’re focusing on. They’ll try to win every game, we’ll try to win every game, and then we’ll see what happens.”

Whether or not Arsenal manage to propel Manchester City to the Premier League title, and that seems unlikely at this stage, Mikel Arteta was always going to give his side a makeover.
The best teams still turn things around even if the results and performances are going well because that’s the way to keep the players on their toes and the standards high.

It can be said that if those in a starting XI believe they have a place no matter what, the level of performance can drop. Where Arteta has done well, he has shown that he is truly his own man and is willing to live or die by the consequences of his tough choices.
While there will be disappointment not to win the title that seemed within reach a few weeks ago (should that scenario materialize, of course), one has to recognize how far the Gunners have come under Arteta.
One player who could fit into the North London squad as a hand in hand is Ivan Fresneda. The Gunners are interested but they may not get everything they want in the transfer market.

“Real Valladolid’s brilliant 18-year-old Ivan Fresneda, who has a market value of €10m, has become an option for Dortmund. The right-back has a contract with the Spaniards until 2025, so it would cost around 20 million euros, but Arsenal are also pushing for his signature and could spend significantly more money,” writes Bundesliga expert and senior football journalist Christian Falk in his exclusive CaughtOffside Substack.

“If Dortmund want to bring the player to the Bundesliga, they have to sell Thomas Meunier to have enough money for him. The 31-year-old Belgian has a contract until 2024 but is only a third-choice full-back and is also very injury-prone. No wonder that Sports Director Sebastian Kehl would like to save his annual salary of 7 million euros and also asks for a small fee for his services.

It’s not clear at this point if the player has a preference as to where he wants to play, but once a club has paid his release clause it’s no longer in his hands to influence the procedure.
Fresneda has shown at Real Valladolid that he is not afraid on the big stage either, so he would likely be an asset to both sides if they reconfirm their interest.
