Rasmus Hojlund has no intention of leaving Manchester United, despite reports in Italy linking him with a potential swap deal for Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen.

The Red Devils striker has jetted home from Euro 2024 after Denmark’s elimination to Germany and in just under a fortnight will be hopping across to Norway – via Manchester – for United’s first pre-season game of the summer against Rosenberg.

Hojlund started each of Denmark’s four games at the Euros but failed to score, meaning he has not netted for his country in his last eight outings. The onus will be on him to up his club tally next season, despite being aged just 21. He will still be operating on the managership of Erik ten Hag after Sir Jim Ratcliffe finally decided to persist with the Dutchman in the Old Trafford hot seat and that appears to suit Hojlund just fine.

Speaking about Ten Hag after the Last 16 defeat to Germany, Hojlund said: “I loved working with him this year and looking forward to many more next year.”

Hojlund netted 10 times last season, including two against Aston Villa and another against Tottenham. He was Erik ten Hag’s flagship signing of last summer having arrived in a deal worth £72m.

The youngster’s debut was delayed due to a back injury and it took until Boxing Day for him to score, which prompted a scoring streak of seven goals in six matches. Since that maiden goal, he has shown glimpses of what lies ahead, although clearly not yet the finished product.

Ten Hag staying at the helm will give him security and confidence going into the new season where he is expected to have more competition for minutes from a new attacking arrival than he was given by Anthony Martial, who now a free agent.

Marcus Rashford is due to speak with United over his future having scored just eight goals last season, although an exit would still be surprising. He is the de facto back up to Hojlund in central attack among current options, despite his lack of output there.

Losing him would create more problems than it would solve, as would the proposed swap deal involving Hojlund and Napoli striker Osimhen. Those speculative reports from Italy – that stated United have offered Hojlund in a part-cash exchange for Osimhen – can be dismissed.

MEN Sport understands that Hojlund is one of four players exempt from a sale this summer, Kobbie Mainoo, Andre Onana and Alejandro Garnacho being the others. Even if this was not the case, an Osimhen swap for Hojlund would still leave United with another striker to find with less money to do so.

Hojlund is not yet the prolific striker United hope he will become but at least he is Premier League tested. Basing a central attack force around a striker yet to cut it in England – Osimhen – after such a poor league season last term seems negligent.

Furthermore, United would still have to dish out a considerable sum for Osimhen, whose reported release clause stands at £110m. The suggestion United have tabled Hojlund plus cash for the Napoli striker is unconvincing and almost certainly false.

Osimhen being bought in his own right for pure cash is another matter – although United are not in a position to afford his transfer given they have a net spend budget of £50m this summer with a defender and midfielder to also target. In any case, a swap deal involving Hojlund is nonsensical.
