‘FANTASTIC LAD’: Rasons given why Man City  youngster ‘will go a very long way in football’

Manchester City fans are raving about Oscar Bobb once again after he shone against AC Milan in pre-season – but Shaun Wright-Phillips picked out another youngster who could have a really bright future ahead of him.

Manchester City lost to Milan 3-2 in New York on Saturday night.

The result is not important though, with improving fitness and working on patterns of play the main focuses at this stage for the manager.

Bobb rather stole the show for City against Milan, just as he did against Celtic. The Norwegian sensation really looks like he could be ready to shine in the 2024/25 season.

But there were also some other good showings from young players.

And Shaun Wright-Phillips really enjoyed the performance of Micah Hamilton.

Micah Hamilton made his first-team debut for City last season when he was a surprise feature from the start against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

Hamilton – who admitted he got a case of ‘jelly legs’ when he found out he’d be playing – started wide on the right, and justified Pep Guardiola‘s faith by scoring after just 19 minutes.

Hamilton then made a substitute appearance against FC Copenhagen a few weeks later, and also came on as a substitute against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup.

So the youngster has been able to dip his toe in, and now he is looking to make an impression in pre-season.

Against Milan, he showed real positivity and laid on a great assist for James McAtee to head home, and his showing left Shaun Wright-Phillips impressed.

The former winger said (via mancity.com): “He’s done what people want to see from a young Academy product or a sub coming off the bench.

“You want to see him have an impact in the game, play a role, be creative and excite people.

“And that’s what he’s done and it’s exactly the same thing that he did in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.

“He seems to have that way where that’s just the way he plays.

“And he will go a very long way in football just because of the way he plays and his tenacity.

“He tries to be creative, but keeps the ball at the right time and his decision-making is so good for such a young player.”

Big praise for Hamilton

Hamilton is one of City’s best young prospects and it will be intriguing to see who he is playing football for in 2024/25.

He saw him come onto the scene in 2023/24 and he looked great against Red Star. His performance in a hostile environment really was impressive.

He finished the season with just three first-team appearances to his name, because it is so difficult for youngsters to play regularly given how many incredible players are in that first-team.

He just needs to keep working hard. If he goes on loan for the coming season – which feels likely given the arrival of Savinho and the early form of Oscar Bobb – then that’ll be a great experience for him.
