Five transfer deals that could save Manchester United millions, as relegated officials confirm

Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton have been relegated from the Premier League and MEN Sport have taken a look at whether Man United could pick up some bargains.

James Madison

The obvious name when scrolling through the three relegated lists. James Maddison has established himself as an excellent Premier League player in recent seasons and is sure to be signed by a top club this summer. Maddison’s talent was not enough to keep Leicester in the top flight, but it would be criminal not to play football there next season.

Maddison has 22 goals and 17 assists in 65 games in the last two league games. He is shaping the games and facing the best years of his career. With United looking for a midfielder this summer, Maddison should be on the agenda.

He has real qualities of distance and set pieces. The midfielder has the aura and ability of someone who belongs on the big stages with top players. United could do much worse than consider a potential move. Harvey Barnes

At this point you start to wonder why Leicester’s season ended in relegation. Barnes is another great operator with a lot of athleticism. Barnes is entering key years of his career and has shown the threat he presents at Premier League level.

As with Maddison, his numbers have been strong in recent seasons, with Barnes scoring goals in double figures over the past four seasons. While his latest ended in heartbreak at Leicester, Barnes enjoyed his best-scoring season in the top flight, netting 13 goals. It’s an immediate and powerful wide option that would improve most Premier League teams.

Romeo Lavia

A very nice thing in an otherwise terrible season for Southampton. The former Manchester City man is reportedly attracting the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea following his first season in the Premier League. Lavia stood out in a struggling Saints side for his intelligence in midfield and tenacity in possession.

As with Maddison, his numbers have been strong in recent seasons, with Barnes scoring goals in double figures over the past four seasons. While his last ended in heartbreak at Leicester, Barnes enjoyed his best-scoring season in the top flight, netting 13 goals. It’s an immediate and powerful wide option that would improve most Premier League teams.

Youri Tielemans

Another midfield option, but with the added attraction that Tielemans is a free agent. The Belgium international is 26 years old and any signing would involve relatively little risk as Tielemans has just reached 200 Premier League appearances.

The midfielder will certainly leave Leicester this summer and will try to play the best football he has, with injuries having not helped him this season. Tielemans has had a disappointing season overall and individually, but a fresh start and renewed motivation might be just what he needs. The magic will always be in those boots.

Armel Bella Kotchap

United are paired with centre-backs and Bella-Kotchap showed plenty of promise last season despite Southampton’s defensive problems. He started the season well and perhaps needed a bit more experience and quality at his side when he made his first breakthrough in the Premier League.

A number of Premier League clubs, as well as teams from Spain, Germany and Italy have reportedly considered a summer move for the player. He has a long-term contract at Southampton, where there is every reason to keep the youngster in the next transfer window.
