Jurgen Klopp reveals surprising catalyst for Liverpool’s victory over Wolves

Jürgen Klopp has revealed Liverpool’s reaction to a disallowed goal was key in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Wolves.
Darwin Nunez looked to have given the home side the lead at Anfield in the 65th minute, but referee Paul Tierney called off the attack following a foul by Diogo Jota on Max Kilman after consulting the pitch monitor.

The call from VAR mattered little as Virgil van Dijk headed in seven minutes later before Mohamed Salah secured the points with his ninth league goal of the season.
Klopp said he disagreed with the referee’s decision but was glad his team put that disappointment behind them to secure the points.

“In the second half, around the disallowed goal, we already put pressure and stuff like that. Management was good, some really good situations.

Klopp said he disagreed with the referee’s decision, but he is glad his side put that disappointment behind them to secure the points.

“In the second half, around the disallowed goal, we already put pressure and stuff like that. The direction was good, some really good situations. “I think you all saw the [unauthorized] goal a few times ago and if you see it in slow motion then you see the contact, but I still think it was a goal, but it’s not anymoreimportant.

Especially the players for whom I don’t have a replay and obviously for them it’s a clear objective. Then you have to react. I wasn’t worried, but of course you see how the guys react – and the reaction was really good.

“Then you force that second goal. I think Virg could have scored with a header from the [free kick], but then Diogo’s first position and a very nice goal. And the second goal was an exceptional game; a very good counter-attack, every pass was perfect. And then we checked it again.

“Well, it was a good performance from us and very important. And of course a goal again, which is extremely helpful. Those are all positives for us, all good.”

The win puts Liverpool sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, who have played one game less. They are next in action when they take on recent Carabao Cup winners and third-placed Manchester United on Sunday.
