Mbappe will become a free agent in the summer and is currently able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs such as Liverpool and Real Madrid. PSG, though, are not giving up hope just yet of losing their star man at the peak of his powers.

As part of this agreement, it has been claimed PSG have “guaranteed” Mbappe the opportunity to feature in both Euro 2024 and the Olympic Games this summer and are the “only club” to have made such a promise. The Olympics, which will take place in Paris between July 24 and August 10, are said to be seen as a “dealbreaker” for the prolific forward.

France last took home a gold medal for men’s football at the Olympics in 1984, meaning this is one prize missing from Mbappe’s collection. That it is taking place in the forward’s city of birth only adds to the idea of this being a special proposition for the 25-year-old.

Discussing his future earlier this month, Mbappe told TNT Sports: “No, to start with I’m very motivated by this year. It’s very important. We have titles to win and we have already won one.

“I haven’t made my decision yet. I haven’t made a choice. With the agreement I had with the president in the summer, my decision is not important as we managed to protect all the parties and preserve the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which is the most important. So we will say that it [the decision] is secondary.”
