Liverpool has more options of star’ better than Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia to pick from

With just about two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, stories continue to circulate surrounding Liverpool following failed moves for Roméo Lavia and Moisés Caicedo. While there are unsurprisingly more rumors about players joining the club, potential exits have also been seen in the gossip columns.

For the former, the club reportedly has six fantastic targets lined up for its much-needed defensive midfield signing. According to the Daily Mail, João Palhinha and Cheick Doucouré are on the shortlist, along with Sofyan Amrabat, Kalvin Phillips, André and Khéphren Thuram.

In other words, players that have already been linked with the Reds — though by this stage, that statement doesn’t rule too many midfielders out, in truth. Which way will Liverpool turn?

Rumor has it that there is fresh interest from Saudi Arabia in both Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah, though it seems hugely unlikely that the club would sanction either move. If it seems like there are Liverpool supporters who couldn’t be much angrier with the club right now, selling either of those key men would certainly push a few over the edge.

Yet maybe the next transfer move involving the Reds won’t feature one of the men listed above, as we shall shortly see. Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn’t miss.

Possible transfer boost for Liverpool

Another midfielder who has been previously rumored to be on Liverpool’s radar is Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Kouadio ‘Manu’ Kone.

When he suffered an injury at the recent U21 European Championships, his name slipped down the list of players heavily linked with the Reds.

Yet he is reportedly back in training which may now offer Liverpool a chance to do a deal if he remains of interest — as Fabrizio Romano has suggested he might. David Comerford has further details on this intriguing story here, along with the revelation that Lavia ultimately opted for Chelsea due to the superior wage packer on offer.

Liverpool midfielder is ready to explode

While the scouting network at the club scours the world for midfielders to purchase, it mustn’t be forgotten that Jürgen Klopp already has a talented group of players at his disposal.

If Harvey Elliott is one who has been a little bit forgotten this summer, having not featured too heavily in pre-season, he gave people a sharp reminder of his capabilities in an encouraging cameo at Stamford Bridge last Sunday. The youngster replaced Salah for the final 13 minutes, finding time to win the ball twice in the final third, and he also created a chance for Darwin Núñez.

Ben Bocsak has taken a closer look at Elliott’s stats from 2022/23 here and it’s worth acknowledging the players he outperformed last season — with Caicedo outstripped in a number of key departments.
