ROUGE SANG: “IT’S ONLY LESS” | JURGEN KLOPP ON LIVERPOOL TOP FOUR PICKS

Liverpool return to the Premier League this afternoon when they take on Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The Reds are back in action after beating Leeds United 6-1 on Monday night. The win at Elland Road was Liverpool’s first since beating Manchester United last month

On Friday afternoon, Jurgen Klopp revealed that Liverpool will be without Roberto Firmino for this afternoon’s game. A muscle injury will sideline Firmino for the Reds’ next three games.

Aside from the Brazilian, however, the Reds boss has no new injury concerns as Luis Diaz came off the bench last time out against Leeds. But if Fabinho receives his tenth league booking of the season this afternoon, he will be suspended for matches against West Ham and Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Steve Cooper is without Cheikhou Kouyate, Gustavo Scarpa, Ryan Yates, Serge Aurier, Chris Wood, Willy Boly, Dean Henderson, Omar Richards and Giulian Biancone for this afternoon’s match.

Forest are currently in the bottom three and have not won in their last 10 games, while Liverpool are nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United in the race for the top four.

At 3.00pm Paul Gorst, Ian Doyle and Theo Squires kick off at Anfield to bring you live updates on the action as well as team news, analysis and reactions.

Nice moment as Steven Gerrard’s son scores at Anfield for the Kop

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard watched his son Lio score a penalty for the Kop during half-time in Liverpool’s game with Nottingham Forest (see video below).

Young Lio was also able to leave before kick-off with his hero Mohamed Salah with the ex-Liverpool captain in the stands.

Gerrard has previously admitted that his favorite Reds player at the moment is the Egyptian, partly due to his son’s love for Salah.

Liverpool finally have their teaser with a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp

If his performance at Elland Road was any major clue, here came the final confirmation. Diogo Jota is finally back to his usual pace for Liverpool.

After the Portuguese ended a more than year-long goal drought with their brace at Leeds United on Monday, the Portuguese netted twice again to inspire Jurgen Klopp’s side from an unnecessarily nervous three-pointer against Nottingham Forest , plagued by relegation.

After the Portuguese ended a more than year-long goal drought with their brace at Leeds United on Monday, the Portuguese netted twice again to inspire Jurgen Klopp’s side from an unnecessarily nervous three-pointer against Nottingham Forest , plagued by relegation.

This time around, however, Jota’s trademark returned, with the striker finally rekindling his reputation as the Reds’ ‘game breaker’ by putting them on the road with the opening goal.

It’s a trait he became known for during his early years at Anfield, particularly last season when he finished first in 14 games. No other Reds player could follow.

FT Player Ratings

Alison Becker 8

Lined up a Gibbs-White shot before being saved even better by the same player after the break. No chance on both goals and nerves calmed with good aerial shots.

Thirty Alexander Arnold 7

Not as much space when penetrating midfield early, but became more dangerous, especially from set pieces, two of which helped to score goals. Ibrahima Konat 6

Involved in a battle of physical strength against Awoniyi which he won in the first half but found much more difficult after the break.

Virgil van Dijk6

A little slow with occasional defensive reactions and a little nervous but threatening in the opposing box, a header pushes Navas into a nice save.

Andy Robertson7

Lots of commotion down the left and some inviting deliveries, especially for the second goal. Unfortunate distraction for Forest equalizing and setting up Jota’s second.
