Man City manager Pep Guardiola is targeting Manchester United star David de Gea.

Man City won the Champions League on Saturday and Pep Guardiola was aiming for an attack on Man United ahead of the final.

Pep Guardiola seems to point out that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea mainly plays ‘long balls’.

De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford expires on July 1 and a contract extension announcement is expected shortly. However, many believe the Spaniard should be sacked this summer amid concerns over his ability to play from behind.

The 32-year-old has come under intense scrutiny over the past few months for his No.1 role. De Gea was at fault against Sevilla, West Ham and Manchester City in the FA Cup final and drew criticism from fans and pundits.

De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove this season but that didn’t save him from uncertainty over his future.

“We have a great chance to have a great season,” says ten Hag

Saturday’s Champions League final saw two goalkeepers comfortable with the ball, Ederson and Andre Onana, earning praise and there is a feeling Erik ten Hag needs a similar stopper for his rebuild.

Ahead of the final in Istanbul, Guardiola spoke to CBS Sports and mentioned United in his analysis. The City boss discussed goalkeeping and suggested United play mostly long balls against Marcus Rashford. “The five defenders [for Inter] are wide, if you change games it’s more difficult to get them, with five it’s more difficult,” said Guardiola. “Inter is not just the forwards and the five defenders: the goalkeeper, with Onana we haven’t seen something like this for a long time.

“It’s difficult if you put that goalkeeper under pressure. When you’re man-to-man they connect to the striker with [Romelu] Lukaku, Lautaro [Martinez] and [Edin] Dzeko, they are masters of holding the ball.

For example, at United it’s a long ball, at Rashford and the others they don’t keep it. These guys [from Inter] are keeping it. And after mating it, they run away. Therefore, you have to think about what to do.

“With the ball, wow, they [Inter] are really, really, really good, that’s why they’re in the Champions League final.
