Manchester City aims to continue their perfect start to the season when they welcome Nottingham Forest at Etihad Stadium today. The Blues have a 100% record with five wins in five matches, which puts them two points ahead of Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of this weekend’s matches.

City enter the match after an easy victory in their opening Champions League group stage match against Red Star. But that came at a cost as Bernardo Silva was injured in the first half on Tuesday and is now out of action for up to 10 days. However, there is some good news on the injury front: Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic are back in training. Pep Guardiola pointed out in Friday’s press conference that although both are not fit to start, there is still a possibility they could end up on the bench.

Forest have made a good start to the season and currently sit in eighth place. They will hope for a better result than the match at the Etihad last season when Man City won 6-0.

Man City’s player ratings against Forest like Walker and Foden are excellent

Manchester City survived Rodri’s moment of madness to make it six wins from six Premier League games by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the Etihad. City looked to be winning, taking a two-goal lead within 15 minutes. Phil Foden broke the deadlock after excellent play from Rodri and Kyle Walker, before Erling Haaland headed home the second from Matheus Nunes’ cross.

But the game changed when Rodri was sent off seconds after the restart, losing control as he pushed Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat. This left the Blues in a difficult position and they trailed for much of the second half as Forest made a brave attempt to get back into the game, but Pep Guardiola’s side held on.

Ederson

He almost lost his head when facing Awoniyi, but made an excellent save in the first half to prevent the striker from scoring clearly. 7

Walker

A great run and block to score the first goal and his wide positioning left Tavares confused when he was on the field. Worked hard to maintain a way out as City slipped to 10.8

Akanji

A superb second-half save from Gibbs-White, the antihero of those at the Etihad, and the unlucky man to be booked before the break. Solid. 8

Dias

Received a reprimand from Guardiola at the end of the first half, but defended well when Man City was down to 10 men. Handled Awoniyi quite well. 7

Gvardiol

Had possession of the ball several times in the first half, but remained strong after the break, moving onto the field like a natural centre-back after Rodri was sent off. 7
