Manchester United vs Arsenal LIVE UPDATE (@ Old Trafford)

LET’S GO

Full-time: Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal

With rain and thunder lashing Old Trafford, Arsenal just barely survive to secure three precious points with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

It wasn’t the most convincing of displays, but three points are three points as far as Arteta and his men are concerned.

United failed to test Arsenal to any degree, and will be pleased the scoreline wasn’t greater.

It is now on City to do the deed against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday to see if this title race will go right down to the wire.

Second half under way

We are back at Old Trafford for the second act.

Arsenal may have the lead, but a 1-0 advantage is always fraught with danger.

Half-time: Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal

It hasn’t been the most fluid of attacking football from the away side, but Arsenal will be more than pleased to carry a slender lead into the break.

United have simply not come to the party so far, and that includes a key defensive lapse which led to the Trossard goal.

Ten Hag will have some strong words for his side as they head into the interval.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will want to add some insurance to the scoreline if they are to keep their title hopes alive in the face of a menacing Manchester City side.

Alex Ferguson is in attendance for Manchester United

Manchester United’s legendary manager Alex Ferguson is in attendance for the match.

It must still be an unusual feeling not to have the title on the line at Old Trafford at the end of a season.

‘We have to earn the right to go to the last day’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking with Sky Sports, provided his views on today’s matchup: “[Playing Manchester United] is always a big challenge. It’s a great place to come and play football of this stature.

“We are playing for something massive and we need to prove that. We need to come here and deliver.

“It’s always difficult [playing United]. They do a lot of things and it’s hard to predict [their tactics].

“They can change momentum in any direction and that is a big quality to have.

“We have to earn the right to go to the last day [of the season and win the title].“

  • Liverpool are up next on Al Jazeera

With Manchester City’s win at Fulham, Liverpool are officially out of the title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have 78 points with two games remaining. They cannot match City’s current tally of 85 even if they win both those games.

The Reds’s trip to fourth-placed Aston Villa is our featured game on Monday.

  • ‘They were far below the standard of United’

United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking with Sky Sports, has shared his thoughts before the match: “They were far below the standard of United I expect from this team [in relation to the 4-0 Crystal Palace loss earlier in the week]. We didn’t have the high performance and mentality [required], and that is the least I can expect [from the side].

“We have to fight and stay behind the team. [On the decision to play Amrabat,] first of all, Arsenal are very strong in possession. We need players who can work the middle and intercept balls.

“There is a lot of competition in the side. He deserves a chance, and it is a great opportunity for him.

“The last few days we trained with him [Fernandes], but he didn’t make it yesterday. He trained both days but was not far enough [along] for him to recover from injury.

“We don’t have options there [in regards to the back four]. You have to protect them. You have to take responsibility.”
