Mikel Arteta breaks silence as William Saliba injury fears surface ahead of Man City clash

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on William Saliba’s injury ahead of Arsenal’s crucial clash with Manchester City.
Having drawn their last three games, the Gunners travel to the Etihad on Wednesday knowing they desperately need a win to have any chance of winning the Premier League.
While City are five points behind Arteta’s men, they have two games in hand and are unbeaten on an impressive 16-game streak.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s dip in form coincided with a back injury suffered by Saliba in the first half of the club’s Europa League round of 16 second leg against Sporting Lisbon in March.
The Gunners were eliminated on penalties that night and although they went on to beat Crystal Palace and Leeds United, they were also held by Liverpool, West Ham United and Southampton. In five games without Saliba, the north Londoners have won nine points from a possible 15 and conceded nine goals.
And the Mail Online revealed on Monday that Arsenal are very concerned about Saliba’s lower back injury due to ‘structural damage’ which could mean the player faces a long-term injury if he plays again this season.
Arteta on Saliba

During his press conference, Arteta spoke about Saliba’s injury.
The Gunners boss said ahead of the heavyweight clash at City: “Unfortunately he hasn’t really improved, we’re still waiting.
“We still have hope, but another week went by and he couldn’t play.”

Arteta added that it was likely Saliba would also miss Arsenal’s game against Chelsea next week. The Spaniard continued: “At the moment we don’t have him and we’re preparing this game without him. The next game (Chelsea) will also probably come too soon.”

Arteta also confirmed that Granit Xhaka, who missed Arsenal’s match against Southampton on Friday, is a doubt for City’s match.

Do you think that William saliba injury could just be responsible for Arsenal’s poor performance at the moment and what do you think could be the way out for Arteta? Leave your comments…
