Nottingham Forest fans pay tribute to the 97 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough in 1989

A 30-foot banner will be held in the distance at Anfield on Saturday as Liverpool host Nottingham Forest and push to end the song of tragedies.

It reads ‘Respect the 97’ with the Forest club crest in one corner and the Hillsborough memorial symbol in the other, along with the words ‘Solidarity with Survivors. No to Tragedy Chanting’.

There has been a spike in abuse directed at Liverpool fans in recent months following the events of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster. The 1989 semi-final was abandoned after six minutes and eventually replayed at Old Trafford on 7 May with Liverpool winning the tie 3–1.

A sold out crowd will be at the City Ground for kick-off at 6pm on Sunday, but 97 seats remain empty.
