Man United (4-2-3-1): Heaton (GK ;— Onana, 46′) — Dalot (Wan-Bissaka, 61′), Lindelof (L. Martinez, 61′), Maguire (Evans, 61′), Williams (Shaw, 61′) — McTominay (Mount, 61′), Eriksen (Casemiro, 61′) — Forson (Antony, 37′), van de Beek (Fernandes, 61′), Pellistri (Rashford, 61′) — Sancho (Hugill, 77′).

Dortmund (4-3-3): Kobel (GK — Meyer, 46′) — Wolf (Bensebaini, 46′), Sule (Papadopoulos, 76′), Hummels (Bueno, 76′), Ryerson (Meunier, 62′ — Pohlmann, 68′) — Sabitzer (Ozcan, 46′), Can (Reus, 62′), Brandt (Besong, 76′) — Malen (T. Hazard, 62′), Haller (Moukoko, 62′), Adeyemi (Bamba, 62′).

Tom Heton

They had a satisfactory first half until Donyell Malen attacked twice in as many minutes to give Dortmund the lead. Half came out. 6

Diogo Dalot

He scored a beautiful curling goal; a timely reminder that he is the most adventurous and prolific right-back. 7

Victor Lindeloff

Heaton and Brandon Williams rowed but the culprit for Malen’s second goal was Lindelof, who attempted a pass that wasn’t there. 5

Harry Maguire

Buoyed by a small minority, he had a mixed first half and was dropped by Andre Onana early in the second half. His last act was almost an own goal. 5

Brandon Williams

Skinned for the first goal, he rowed with Heaton after the second. He has been involved in some brilliant offensive sequences. 6

Scott McTominay

Captain for the night, but pathetically plunged into a duel with Niklas Sule. As the attackers united, he faded into the background. 6

Christian Ericson

A link between defense and attack that supported United’s dominant display in the opening 40 minutes. Comes off after an hour, as usual. 6

Pellistri Factor

Played on the left flank and was brilliant in one of those rare first-team starts, but his end result was unpredictable at times. 6

Donny van de Beek

As a No.10, he was involved in a promising interaction in the final third and took some good positions. 7

Omari Forsson

He was enjoying his most confident performance at United until he sent off Julian Ryerson and collided with Karim Adeyemi. He received a yellow card and was substituted in the 37th minute. I have received a detailed account from Ten Hag. 5

Jadon Sancho

A worthy attention as he crossed the middle. He could have scored a goal if his teammates’ serve had been better and lasted more than an hour. 6

SUBSTITUTES

Anthony

A surprising substitute, he calmly equalized at the start of the second half but missed a good chance on the rebound. 6

André Onana

Ping’s first pass was effortless and Sebastian Haller parried brilliantly. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Bad on both sides. 5

Johnny Evans

Played on the right side of central defense and had a header on target. 6

Lisandro Martinez

carefree. 6

Luke Shaw

A bit sloppy. 5

mason mount

Made some commendable passes. 6

Casemiro

Hotter than Houston. 6

Bruno Fernandes

Often involved. 6

Marcus Rashford

Gave Wan-Bissaka a chance and improved on the left flank. 7

Joe Hughhill

Wasted one on one late. 5
