Player “Waiting” To “Undergo A Medical” With Liverpool Set To Win Transfer Battle After £45M Bid Is Lodged
Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is “waiting” to “undergo a medical” ahead of sealing his £45m move to Liverpool, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Belgian reporter claims a second bid was made this morning and, as long as the two sides agree on the instalment and bonus package, a move could be wrapped up in a matter of days.
Lavia has already agreed personal terms with the Reds and there is even hope that he could be on the flight out to Singapore with the rest of the squad for the pre-season tour.
Of course, with negotiations still ongoing, the situation could change, but it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side have beaten rival Premier League clubs to the 19-year-old’s signature.
Chelsea had made a big push for Lavia
The Blues are believed to have put pressure on Liverpool to complete the move very quickly. Chelsea’s co-Director of Recruitment and Talent Joe Shields is known to be a big fan of the Belgian.
He had worked with the midfielder at both Manchester City and Southampton, and he even tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge when he joined the London club last year, despite the fact that Lavia had just made the move to the Saints.
However, it appears that, just like Arsenal, Chelsea are not prepared to match the teenager’s asking price.
Liverpool are taking a big gamble
While £42.5m plus £2.5m in add-ons is slightly less than the £50m that Southampton were demanding, it is still a huge sum for a player who has just a year’s worth of senior football under his belt.
You would expect that Klopp, sporting director Jorg Schmadtke and the recruitment team have done their homework, otherwise, this could turn out to be a huge waste of money. Hopefully, he can live up to the price tag.
