Liverpool went into the international break having once again failed to hold on late in the game – this time in a 2-2 draw at Brighton, which came after two goals from Mo Salah.

Brighton and Hove Albion 2-2

Alisson Becker – 6 (out of 10)

He didn’t carry himself in all glory in Brighton’s first game from a positional perspective, but that’s the trade-off of always being available for passes. Maybe I could have recovered faster, but it was a very quick shot.

A great save when going head-to-head with the same player after a restart and no chance for someone to level Dunk – not much to do in between.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

He still seems a long way from being match sharp and it was a bit of a surprise that he returned so soon after Joe Gomez’s performance. Of course, there were some lovely passes and changes of position, but he was very slow to get back into position, often running as Brighton drifted forward, and one-on-ones were always hit or miss to success.
A good stretch kept Mitoma out, but overall it wasn’t enough.

Joel Matip – 7

Good at passing the ball, good at blocking many ball attempts.

He was more successful than Virgil when he planned to come out in midfield to face the first challenge from the attackers trying to regain their feet.

He took a knee for the challenge and that may have been what caused him to retire.

Virgil van Dijk – 6

The truth is not great. Caught multiple times in the box and made a sloppy pass that was intercepted and led to the first goal. He, more than Mac Allister, was probably at fault.

The aerial work was good against a series of set-pieces in the first half but was not a tightly controlled performance and did not deliver the real power when we needed it in the last 15 games.

Andy Robertson – 4

The truth is that there was a bit of circumvention by Adingra. I couldn’t catch him after being passed, I couldn’t stop the cross coming in or the attacker turning inside.

A few good moments like a release down the left and a few overlapping runs went unnoticed, but the biggest impact was simply the failure to clear the ball from a free kick, from which Dunk scored valid table.

Alexis MacAllister – 4

Playing this Argentinian role means we’ll have days like this:
When the number 8s are not perfect, when the pressing is not good, when the runners cannot keep up, Alexis simply will not be a hindrance to the defense.

He was fouled multiple times, sloppy passes were even evident up the pitch and he was completely out of possession in Brighton’s opener.

You really have to feel sorry for him, that’s not why he was hired.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6

One of his less impactful performances, but he was still very good in midfield. When the Red Devils started passing the ball, there was always the number 8 and he was unlucky not to get an assist for Diaz.

Harvey Elliott – 6

He was given the nod to start in the absence of Curtis Jones and made a dynamic start as Liverpool enjoyed a slight upturn in form, but that only lasted 15 minutes and he contributed little after that.

Flooded in the middle, out of control and substituted at the break – but deserves praise for his selfless moment in our equaliser, stepping over the ball to give it to Salah when he could have easily Shoot the ball from a worse angle. .

Mohamed Salah – 8 (Best player of the match)

It’s fun to watch him, even if things aren’t going well for the Reds. Salah’s touch is impeccable, his turning radius is tight and that’s it

Mohamed Salah – 8 (Best player of the match)

It’s fun to watch him, even if things aren’t going well for the Reds.

Salah’s touch is impeccable, his turning radius is tight and it often takes two tries to close him, opening up space elsewhere.

Good work rate on this occasion also in the first half and his one touch passing when we got all the key moves in their half was excellent.

More importantly, he buried his only chance in open play and took a penalty immediately afterwards.

Darwin Nuñez – 7

We didn’t have many clear views of goal – clumsy headers, blocked shots in the first leg – but we played a very important role in both the build-up and the play. no shine. He created Salah’s equalizer and also did a lot of good pressing.

We should have used more quick counter-attacks rather than our often too slow build-up play.

Luis Diaz – 6

A very busy game, although it’s actually a bit hard to say whether it’s “good” or not. Diaz endured a relentless run, sometimes mostly towards his own goal and often rushing to handle or hold the ball to draw fouls.

However, in the final third he is very erratic:
a shot went wide, a chance to free Nunez was missed and his dribble attempts were often unsuccessful. Substitute

Ryan Gravenberch (replacing Elliott, 46′) – 6

–should have scored but hit the crossbar from close range! Some excellent swing and running, plus better fitness, suggests he could start the post-international.

Ibrahima Konate (replacing Matip, 72′) – 5

– Didn’t get into the rhythm of the game quickly enough. Sloppy walkway.

Joe Gomez (replacing Alexander-Arnold, 79′)

– n/a – Carded and committed a few fouls. Not a good cameo.

Unused subs:
Adrian, Quansah, Tsimikas, Chamber, Endo, Doak

Jurgen Klopp – 6

A curious choice in midfield gave Brighton a dominant attack with quick exchanges in the middle and it didn’t really work.

He insists his replacement for Endo at half-time on Thursday was planned in advance, so why didn’t he start from here – and therefore without Mac Allister in his natural role?!

Most notably, there seemed to be little reaction from the manager about changing the situation, whether midway through the first half or heading into the final 15 minutes, both times Brighton took the lead.

A change to the formation might have been the best option, especially when the score was 2-1 late in the game, but they were all the same changes, at least in terms of position.

In truth, it wasn’t his best day on the touchline and the Red Devils were a bit lucky to get a point after 90 minutes, although they led late into the night.
