‘Watch your tongue bro’ – Virgil van Dijk sent sharp warning to Cody Gakpo after Liverpool interview blunder

Liverpool’s Dutch contingent Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk were on media duty

Cody Gakpo has had to apologize after an x-rated comment he made during an interview with Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk.

The Netherlands forward arrived at Merseyside during the January transfer window as the Reds eyed fierce rivals Manchester United for the signing of the PSV Eindhoven captain. Gakpo has enjoyed a positive opening at Anfield for four months and is one goal away from reaching double figures in the Premier League.

After his shocking arrival earlier in the year, the 24-year-old appears to have adjusted to life in the north-west with some help from Dutch team-mate Van Dijk. However, he has yet to get used to the dos and don’ts of interviewing the British shores

In an interview with BBC Sport for their Football Focus show, the Dutch duo teamed up with Liam MacDevitt for a version of ‘Honesty Cards’. Both were asked a variety of questions, from goosebumps throughout their careers to who takes the most selfies in the locker room.

When the pair were asked who was better in their final drills, Gakpo and Van Dijk were both confident in their abilities as the former suggested he would be in the top three. Meanwhile, the centre-back admitted he would be in the top five – a surprising admission given that the Reds have not seen much of the defender’s shooting ability he displayed at Celtic.

However, Gakpo had to apologize for his x-rated mistake. Describing the drill, Van Dijk said: “We have a practice shooting from the side that you have to get [tap] into D. “It really depends on the day. Some days with a touch of shit and you’re out,” the 24-year-old added. But the elder of him was quick to point to the incident by saying, “Oh, mind your tongue bro, it’s the BBC here.”

Gakpo apologized and said, “Ah, can’t you say that? I’m sorry.”

Everton after player Steven Gerrard wanted to ‘build the team around’ – TEAMtalk

Steven Gerrard previously admitted that he wanted to build his Rangers team around Ryan Kent (The Scotsman) and now the former Liverpool man could be set to join city rivals Everton.

This comes courtesy of TEAMtalk, with the outlet claiming that the Toffees are among several outfits reportedly admiring the soon-to-be out-of-contract wide man.

The Englishman has enjoyed a productive final season in the Scottish top-flight, amassing 10 assists and three goals in 44 games (at a rate of a goal or assist roughly every three games).

It would be strange to see yet another former Liverpool player cross the park after, most recently, Conor Coady jumped ship from Wolves on loan.

That being said, there can be no hard feelings about a footballer who simply wasn’t given a chance at the club. Understandably so, given that we possessed a formidable front-three of Sadio Mane, Bobby Firmino and Mo Salah all at the peak of their powers as an offensive unit.

If it’s Everton above all else that appeals to the 26-year-old, we’ll wish him nothing but the best of luck with his future endeavours.
