The game started at Kingsmeadow in cold, foggy conditions and ground staff worked hard to clear the pitch of ice before kick-off, but with just six minutes to go the referee called on the captains and managers and decided to drop the attachment.

The decision was made for player safety reasons, as freezing conditions caused several players to slip during opening changes and appear to be in pain after falling onto the hard court. “You could see from the first few minutes that it was like an ice rink on the sides,” said manager Emma Hayes.

“It’s not up to the coaches to decide that, it’s up to the officials to decide if a game goes. It’s minus one degree, that’s the right decision, it probably shouldn’t have been right from the start. departure.
