HOT REACTION ♥- Trent and Van Dijk react to Newcastle win in anticipation of Real madrid match

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk hailed a vital Premier League victory for Liverpool against Newcastle United on Saturday night.

The Reds took three points at St James’ Park to register straight wins after goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo in the first half.

Newcastle saw goalkeeper Nick Pope shown a red card in a busy opening period as Jurgen Klopp’s men secured an important victory on the road.

Read on to see what the pair had to say on Sky Sports after the game…

    Trent Alexander Arnold

    As for the result…

It’s huge for us. It was a big deal. We got our win against Everton, it was also a big achievement for us. It wouldn’t have meant anything if we had come here and not backed him up with another win.

That’s why we came, we broke them with two good goals. The red card calms us down and makes it difficult for them. It’s a tough place to get to, not many teams come here to win, so we’re delighted to bring home the three points.

The first goal in the 10th minute comes at a “good” moment…

You need a goal in every phase of the game especially the first goal and even in a place like this when the crowd is behind you. It’s a tough place to get into, intimidating, the atmosphere is top notch so it’s important to score an early goal to sort that out.

It was a good order of play, something we worked on in training, especially our side triangle and his movement. It was a great Darwin run and a great finish. It was important. They haven’t conceded many goals, we talked about it. Splitting them twice is not something many teams do.

    On building trust and momentum…

It was a season in which we didn’t have a lot of confidence. We’ve had good performances here and there, but not a consistent period so far. I hope this is the beginning. We are used to making winning streaks during the seasons, we know how to put them together. It is starting to look – and feel – like the Liverpool team we are used to. There are positive signs. There are things we can look at and improve…it’s a big stepping stone for us.

    Virgil Van Dyke

As for whether that could be a significant result…

Let’s hope so. We had results in the season that we felt it was time to start. But this looks a little different, I guess. After the big win against Everton it was important to carry on and find a way to win.

We had intensity, especially in the beginning. The red card changed the game a bit for them, but also for us. We could have done better, but there’s a reason we’re the only team to win here this season. I am very proud of the boys. Now we need to recover with the rapid change of course and focus on Real Madrid. We’ve had a difficult season, but to come here and win I’m really proud. We take it, move forward and step by step we move forward.

    Back from injury…

It feels very good. Being healthy is the most important thing in the world. It’s been a rough six weeks, but I’m back. Obviously I will do everything to recover and be ready for the Champions League match, it’s very important for us.

It’s hard work behind the scenes, but I’m happy to be back and contribute to a great win. Now is the time to make the rest of the season the best it can be and to do everything together.
Being six points behind the top four…

I think this whole season has proven that any team can beat any team. We want to find that consistency with what we’ve done over the past five years, how good we’ve been [and] the standard we’ve set as a team, group and club. This is only possible on the ground. We showed that today and in the last game against Everton. This is a good step and we will do it. Until next time.
