Jamie Carragher believes it is possible that Liverpool have found a new front three

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool have what it takes for a new three-man front to replace the old guard of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Salah is still there, of course, but Firmino announced his departure at the end of the season, while Mane currently plays in Germany for Bayern Munich.

These three stars have been the spearhead of Liverpool’s defense for so long and have been so successful that replacing them seems like a tall order.

However, as the Reds beat Man United 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday, the goals also came from a host of new names.

Cody Gakpo has had a rocky start under Jurgen Klopp but his recent form has fans thrilled as Darwin Nunez finally realizes the potential that was evident from the start. Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher believes creating a new attacking trio is already at the club.

“Roberto’s announcement to me, that I won’t be at the club next season, Sadio Mane will be moving at the start of the season and Liverpool won’t be competing for much of this season.

“It was good to see Gakpo, Nunez, Salah, Diaz still left to come back, Jota off the bench, that a new front three might be in the works. Will he ever get to that level? We don’t know

“But let’s not forget that Manchester United are high quality opponents. Probably one of the most in-form teams in Europe going into this game.

“So when you attack players who are so devastating that day and score so many goals, it bodes well for the future as Liverpool come back to their own in terms of splitting teams and scoring goals.

The Liverpool legend also reserved particular praise for Gakpo’s performance as he was particularly impressive against the Red Devils.

“He scored goals but it was a brilliant performance. But what I would say about Gakpo and Harvey Elliott are the two positions I thought were up for grabs. Have we seen the ingredients for a new Liverpool line against Manchester United this weekend?
