Liverpool lead to £50m signing – Report

March 14, 2023 Farjad Iftekhar

Liverpool have received a huge boost in their search for England international Mason Mount.

According to a story published by Football Insider, the Three Lions playmaker is in talks with Chelsea over a new deal, but the talks have collapsed.

News – Liverpool ready to accept £88.5m fee – Streamlining passing to secure signing

The news source said Liverpool are looking to seal Mount’s signing and believe the deal could be finalized for a £50m fee.

The 36-year-old star has reportedly turned down the latest offer from the Blues, asking for a hefty £250,000-a-week salary.

It should be remembered that at Anfield only one player earns more than £250,000 a week and it is Egyptian international Mohamed Salah who is the highest earner, taking home around £350,000 a week. Mount won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea and was a key player for the Stamford Bridge club.

Last season, in 27 league starts, the versatile attacking midfielder contributed directly to 21 goals (11 goals and 10 assists).

This season, since the arrival of Felix, Fernandez and Mudryk in the January window, the 24-year-old has been in the starting XI and has only played 90 minutes in the Premier League once.

Therefore, it will come as no surprise if he leaves the London-based side during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool lack players who can score/create goals through midfield and adding a seasoned PL star like Mason Mount would significantly strengthen the squad. The question is, should the Reds spend £50m and offer £250,000 a week to seal the signing
